If the iPad Pro with Mini-LED ran a $100 cost increase, I am curious to see what Apple will do with the rumored 14-inch Pro. If they keep the price at 1799 - where it was in the past, it's offly odd given only $100 distance from the old design 13-inch M1 Pro - but frankly raising it to $2k puts them without a newer design or fresh screen under $1999 - the MacBook Air and Pro effectively become iPhone SE's or 11's of sorts, and on some level this bodes poorly IMO, design still matters and the these MacBooks are a bit stale on the outside, for Apple in particular. An XPS 13 by comparison looks much sleeker.

Of course it's entirely possible they upgrade the Air without a price increase come 2022 as has been rumored, and this takes the mantle as the entry-level model, with a solid $800-1000 gap.

Also; the Quanta leaks suggest 16GB to 32GB of RAM only for these newer Pro's, so I've a hard time believing they'll replace the old MacBook Pro and start at 1299, lol

I think $1799 is mostly confirmed, this price is so apple, that would make a huge difference in price between them, $500 extra for a new design and maybe "M1X" variation of the chip is huge, and this would probably cost them around $50-100 extra, so they will steal around $400 from us by doing this, and everyone would like to pay even $1000 to get rid of touchbar, and i think they know this for sure.
The price for 16" i think will be the same, they have enormous margin for this one already(like with iPad Pro 12.9), or maybe they will put $100 like with iPad Pro just to make it tim cook way.

I mean again relative to an M1 Macbook pro with 16GB/512/8-cores, that’s 1699. It would be 1799. Feels way too close to an outright inferior model. Which is where my trepidation comes from that they’ll try to pull off 1999, which is just total ******** IMO, the costs from redesigning it, an M1x & throwing a mini LED don’t justify more than 1799.
I mean it would be hilarious if Apple’s options for under 1999 basically consistsed of no Mini-LED/OLED nor modernized (last 3-6 years, slim bezel esque) designs lol

I do think the updated Air will keep a similar price point, so it would be a temporary situation, but would prob. Be bad for the 2021 holidays

i think they will keep the 1799, i know there used to be a lot of apple products that completely doesnt make sense after the upgrade so i think they will keep this way, wasnt the intel bases „non touch bar” near the same price after the upgrades? and u did get the „glorious touchbar” and 2 useful usb-c’s more.
I think the most majority products that apple sells are pre-baked version’s so 1299-1499-1799-2000 these ones are laying around the shop and they are immediately outsold to vendors, these ultra expensive custom ones are just for nerds like us within macrumors or just professionals who need this kind of machine

When they introduced the MacBook Pro with Touchbar, they raised the prices by $300. The entry level 13" Retina MacBook Pro used to start at $1499, but the new version with Touchbar was raised to $1799.
Since the new MacBook Pro with M1 starts at $1299 and the 512GB version occupies the $1499 spot, I think it's safe to say that the 14" will be at least $1799. I would also assume that they keep the 512GB/16GB version as the entry level 14" model. The upgrade options would be 32GB RAM and a 1/2/4 TB SSD - the 8 TB upgrade option feels more like a 16" USP.
If you look which components are more expensive in the 14" and which are cheaper now than in the previous version, I would say $1799 because it evens out:

-more expensive: new display ($$$)
-more expensive: new form factor ($$)
-more expensive: more ports ($)
-more expensive: development of the new MagSafe adapter (which could be split up in parts with the iMac development) ($)
-likely more expensive: new color options (?) ($)
-unchanged or less expensive: no Intel CPU - I would say that the M1X/M2/M?? will be cheaper ($$-$$$)
-less expensive: no Touchbar (they already manufacture the keyboard for the MacBook Air) ($$$)

I really hope they don't raise the price to $1999 to make a "statement" but $1799 with maybe a +$100 XDR Display tax (like in the new iPad Pro) or Cooks +$100-because-we-can-and-you-will-still buy-it tax seem to be realistic.
There was a rumor that Apple wanted to "please" their pro customers after years of Touchbars and dongles (I can't find it) - so $1799 with no price increase could be possible.

I hate to say it but your first sentence is such a good point for a higher price...
If we look at the MacBooks we see the pricing:

8GB RAM:
$999 M1 Air 256/8
$1249 M1 Air 512/8
$1299 M1 Pro 256/8 (+$300 for the Pro)
$1499 M1 Pro 512/8 (+$250 for the Pro)

16GB RAM:
$1449 M1 Air 512/16
$1699 M1 Pro 512/16 (again +$250 for the Pro)

Intel dinosaurs:
$1799 i5 Pro 512/16
$1999 i5 Pro 1TB/16

So the +$250 for the Pro over the Air would mean $1949 for the new 14"... I know it's not that simple but it seems that $1899 or even $1999 are a very real possibility...

When the first retina MacBook pro came out it was well over $2,000

So don't think for one minute it is going to be under $2,000

I think just like the iPad Pro only the highest end models will get mini leds at first. Probably the high end 14” and 16” or possibly only the 16” will have mini leds and then a year or so trickle down to the lower end MacBooks.

Not well over. It was $2,199, and Apple was pushing it hard; the student discount was higher than usual, so I got it for $2000.

But that was the 15.4" version. The 13.3" started with $1699 in 2012 (up from $1199 before) and moved to $1299 in 2013, so I think a $500 premium over the M1 Pro could be realistic.

They will most likely keep the same price as now: 1799 for a 16GB/512GB SSD version. The “low-end” 13” pro will probably be discontinued eventually, replaced by a more consumer-oriented machine (probably something colorful like the iMac). I believe that we will go back to the historical Apple lineup split between MacBook and MacBook Pro. The consumer machines will continue using the same SoC, while the prosumer machines will use SiP (chiplet) design with more flexible configurations.

I could see this. It will be interesting to see what’s used in the Pros given the speculated ram configurations
