I don't think it takes a panel of market analysts to tell you that a 10" iPhone with the power of a laptop will sell like hot-cakes, even to those that already have an iPhone.

I hope to see the following in the tablet:
1. ebook support with download directly from itunes(Amazon or Barnes and Nobles deal?).
2. support for HDTV to replace AppleTV. AppleTV will now become an App downloadable from the Appstore. it would make sence that it would only be an App for future release in iphones with HD support.
3. Music and video hub with better itunes user experience think of coverflow
4. runs iphone3.0 OS not OSX.
5. to compete with netbooks(and kindle)
6. posibility to use keyboard but not bundled.
7. multitouch screen of course
8. webcam and ichat.
9. bluetooth and wlan
10. 7 hours of batteri
11. unibody design

1. Doubtful.
2. Incredibly doubtful.
3. So... iTunes.
4. I'd never buy it. What's the point of a big iPhone without the phone?
5. Sure, right.
6. Standard Bluetooth keyboard compatibility, but no bundle.
7. Hence the tablet.
8. Yes.
9. Yes and Macs already have that.
10. Depends on the thickness.
11. Given.

I take it you never opened your iMac up and enjoyed the puck mouse? I don't think many people shared your excitement for the original iPod.

Waiting for Apple's third or fourth revision is becoming a running joke. If it isn't already.

If a significant number of people were always waiting for 3rd or 4th revisions, those revisions would never happen in the first place. You're trying to place your self-centered view of Apple's product release on everyone else, which simply doesn't work in reality. Subsequent revisions are "better" because that's how it's supposed to be. Technology changes very quickly. My laptop is an original MacBook and it's fine. Yes, later revisions are "better" by virtue of having newer technology, but that doesn't make the first release a joke.

No, you're just misreading what has been said.

Yes, later revisions are "better" by virtue of having newer technology, but that doesn't make the first release a joke.

First revisions are notorious for having glitches. Eidorian isn't talking about "better" hardware, but the FIXING of said glitches.

I just got off the phone with Skywalker ranch. It comes with a light saber. Red U2 version to be released next year, Q2. Purple and blue to be released in September.

The Killer Feature

The killer Feature? As said before it will be doing something that has been done before but better. The ipod changed listening to music, the iphone changed how we communicate and the Itablet will... be the coolest way ever to watch movies - any movies anywhere easily just like itunes only more than they do now. All the movie companies will allow you to rent any of their movies online for 99 cents and there will be interactive content. Games too in a big way not just the simple versions in the apps store I'm talking Interactive games that will be killer also.
My 2 cents on this.

Made some minor edits to that Gizmodo article second paragraph
--------
Think about it: the rumors are of essentially a cell phone with a Touch screen with a WiFi connection. It's a cell phone which can do other things, right? But we live in a time where $49 phones are the norm. Are people going to really be willing to part with $499 for a gussied-up cellphone with a touchscreen and Apple design?

maybe the tablet is for car use (GPS, iTunes, Video player, "iPhone", wi-fi (to sync all at home), wireless, DVB tunner, etc :) )

or a tablet that plug into an iDock Mac 24" with all of you things
and you can unplug it to carry in your pocket :)

:)

Some type of haptic feedback that is much more advanced than we have ever seen or felt. Imagine lightly rubbing your fingers across the tablet's screen and your able to feel individual keys, this would make on screen keyboards so much better. This type of feedback could also be used for games and other apps. Imagine turning a page on an e-book and it actually feels like your flipping a page when you flick your finger.

I hope it has a revolutionary kickstand so I don't have to prop it up against a wall when I want to watch something on it. :p

Magnets

so many magnets that it can keeps it's orientation to the earths magnetic field.

Or a cross licensing deal with Segway for gyros.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

I don't think it needs a killer app, even if it's just a big iPod Touch.

If you want a killer app,it would be a WINE-like mode that runs xp compatible software without windows!

It seems to me that whenever Apple releases something that is NOT a standard computer, they're releasing a 'way of doing things' or a 'Platform' Eg, the iPhone, the iPod, Apple-TV and so on. All these things have one thing in common - The iTunes store.

If you think about it a bit, the only 'media type' that's really missing from the iTunes store is Books. We've got music, audiobooks, movies, apps, etc etc, but not 'eBooks' as such. Imagine being able to subscribe to an iTunes-U series of lectures and also obtain the interactive media for that course - such as an eBook with audio and video content. As has already been mentioned by some media commentators - digital versions of Album sleeves may appear shortly too. What about magazine subscriptions - new magazines that have interactive content and not just written material. The iTunes is the perfect place to dish up such content and a Tablet of sorts would be the ideal device to retrieve and enjoy that content.

Add to this mobile safari, Wifi, and of course another platform for Apps to be written and you start to have a rather compelling reason why Apple would enter that market space and. more importantly, the 'Killer' is not in the actual hardware itself, but the 'total solution' that only Apple can offer.

If I think even more outside the square, I would go so far as to suggest that Apple may extend its MobileMe functionality to incorporate Apps that would be accessed from a Tablet such as a web-based version of iWork........of course, that's just my mind going into over-drive.

Just my 2c worth.

The iPhones killer feature was Safari!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have the Macrumours staff been on the funny drugs again? It's blindingly obvious it's killer feature is it's interface. Just how many full touch screen phones that don't come with a stylus in the box were there at the iPhone's launch?

Anyway, as with all the endless iPhone Nano rumours I won't believe a thing till I see Apple launch it.

I do not know about 'a' killer app but if I am given one I can see the following uses.

1. While working out, I can read. I do this with my iphone but with the tablet it is much better.

2. Web cam and video conferencing applications - natural fit

3. Business use: Web conferencing - Watch a presentation from anywhere

4. There is a whole lot of enterprise work flow/process flow which are currently satisified through custom systems. From obtaining signatures ( FedEx ), notifications, approvals, configuration, report viewing etc which all can use a hand held with a bigger display that people can carry along.

5. Today I use my iphone like a computer but I still need a laptop. My friend uses a BB with GoogleApps and his use of the laptop is steadily decreasing. With this kind of device, if done right, will make the use of laptop less and less frequent.

Linking up the line up

The killer feature for me is that any possible new tablet links with the rest of the Apple line up.

If it can join up ATV, Time Cap, Mobile Me, airtunes, mac and iphone (using the best features from each one) - then we have a real winner.

I was just looking at the modbook website and it states that they only use pre unibody macbooks to make their product. Has Apple forced them out of the game in order to bring in its own 13" macbook touch?

The killer feature for the Tablet is that it will be nothing more than a dumbed down upsized iPod touch - not a full featured working OSX computer.

Since most people are basically dumb, and can only point with their fingers, it will sell like hotcakes.

What a shame, I really would like a full on POWERFUL computer in a tablet form, that allows for PEN INPUT where I can draw and take notes and USE ALL OF MY EXISTING OSX SOFTWARE instead of fart apps.

There is not much that you can do with your fingers - maybe finger paint and point at links, but that is just about it.

The killer feature will be not running iPhone OS so I can actually install useful applications on it.

Otherwise, we can look forward to bigger and better fart apps - with augmented reality so the farts come out of real butts.

Killer Feature, a product that works, "Macs just work".

I would love a tablet, but I only need a tablet if it will work for me.
OSX preferably full
iLife '10?'09
iWork '10?'09

Quickbooks current
GPS TOM TOM APP ----> whenever it's available

iPhone tether-able (ATT )

Inventory APP would be nice as well but not necessity.

As you can probably tell I run a service company by my request.
