What will intel iMac, rev B look like?

You haven't looked at PCs too recently, have you? Even the lowly $450 eMachines have FW now. It is not uncommon at all.

I've never even heard of eMachines, the only ones I know of are Dell, Compaq / HP, Gateway and Alienware.

eMachines was a small company started on a very lean principle of making low cost computers. Their initial quality was awful, but they've been improving by leaps and bounds. They merged with Gateway, and are slowly in the process, like termites, of eating away all the rotwood in that company, and replacing it with efficiency. 😉

FWIW, eMachines is a much more important force in the PC market than Alienware. Their meteoric rise was primarily in the *post* Dell era. And when they merged with Gateway, they came in as the knowhow, with the intention of eventually dropping a lot of Gateway's people (not that I support layoffs). Which is significant, considering that eMachines had maybe 100-200 employees at the time of the merger. And was a force to be reckoned with.

I would love to see the chin banished to history. I would also love to see the imac become a total multimedia computer, with a hdtv and tv tuner. I know to some this is heresy, but -perhaps because I share a tiny apartment with my partner- I love the idea of having a mac as a work machine and home entertainment center all in one. I know it wont happen though so I just bought a samsung 940mw lcd monitor/tv that will hook up to my powerbook.

not really. you will never see an "actual" screen image on product photography (computer or tv). screen images are always added in post. that way you don't get glare/reflection. plus it will be a much sharper image. in the olden days of CRT you would have had the lines from the refresh rate to deal with as well. hense screen images always added in post.

Wait...I'm confused now. Mac_Freak, did you get the whole image from the Apple gallery, or did you photoshop it together, but get the screen from the Apple gallery? Because the lower edge of the unit *is* different, right? I think it's smaller on the newest iMacs than on the Rev A/B, but not by that much?

940mw

I know it wont happen though so I just bought a samsung 940mw lcd monitor/tv that will hook up to my powerbook.

I've been considering the 940MW as a second monitor for the iMac Core Dou (just waiting till tuesday). It kind of looks like a silver iMac and has the same resolution as the 17" 1440x900. It's HDCP compliant and it's only $499! I would love to hear how your experience is with the 940MW and maybe some pics. Here's my one man thread on the subject.

I sorta like that design... it needs some tweeks but if apple replaced the current imac with that, i would still buy it....

Nice idea, but wouldn't that make it a lot fatter because the power adaptor and speakers sit there.
