This discussion remind me a lot of how mobile phones have developed. I have both a 6.2 inch phone, and an older 5.8 inch phone which I managed to repair. I much prefer the smaller one as I can use it comfortably with one hand. Phones (and iPhones) have got larger over the years but the human hand hasn't!

Similarly, the width of screen you can focus on at a given distance will never change (unless bionic eyes become available). The poster above could be right that "27 inch will become the new normal, followed by 32 inches". I would be pretty sad if that came to pass, and companies such as Apple were pushing it.

At the risk of repeating myself, where monitors are currently missing out is in vertical space, not horizontal.
