Maybe they used their MacBook while plugged in, it's a common issue: https://www.google.com/search?q=macbook+groundingI know someone who returned their MacBook Air M2 because they could ‘feel the WiFi and radiation coming from the keyboard’.
I don't want the notch/pill gone because it would look cooler, but because it is distracting and cuts into the shape of the display. It is a utilitarian demand. I'd rather have larger bezels at the top/bottom.The most common mistake people come up with when asked to give a better phone design, is they come up with designs that's cool or novel but has no utilitarian advantage.
This all screen no hole no notch idea for example. Firstly it's so lame and obvious even a kid knows it's better to be just all screen, you're not contributing much.
But if we think more about this, it's just not a better design, sure you could sacrifice some features that would otherwise require a hole, let's say we remove FaceID and have the camera behind the screen, that's doable today, but is it better?
Let's ask another question, let's say you can just have 100% screen, what information are you now going to put there in the space that was previously just a cutout/hole? Is it even aesthetically pleasing to do this? Fill the screen with information/text?
Yes more screen is generally better because screen is programmable you can have the screen display black if you really really for some reason don't need the extra screen. However this is only true to some extent, going from 50% screen to 80% screen would be a huge jump. Going from 80% to 95% is a small bump. But going that last 5% is of basically no use, yet you have to sacrifice a lot of functionality to get that, so it makes no sense.
The smartphone for most people is first and foremost, a tool, it needs to work the best as its #1 priority, and then on top of that, if possible without any sacrifice to utility, have it look cooler.
Yesssss a iPhone 7, full screen no Dynamic Island or perhaps a virtual one which appears if you have an app that has some info you want to see persistently. At a minimum 48 hr battery life. And a flush camera so it lays flat. 7 and 6s my favorite designed phone, super thin when the screen was off it looked like a liquid ink drop in the shape of a rectangle. And the smaller size perfect for the one hand. Ppl say y didn’t you buy a 13 mini when it was out, I say bc I wanted a mini pro and Apple didn’t deliver that.Just give me an iPhone7 with an upgraded processor and improved battery life and I'll be very happy for a long time.
Yes it’s cool to buy and hold a newly designed iphone in your hands, rather than buying into the same aging design.Sounds like most just want some new type of physical form factor so that it feels new or different from the older models. Most of these other suggestions sound impractical either from a business or functionality perspective.
Jobs only led the OG—>3G/3GS—>4/4S transitions?Yes it’s cool to buy and hold a newly designed iphone in your hands, rather than buying into the same aging design.
This is the biggest drawback for myself in upgrading my 12 pro max. Cook is selling us the same phone with incremental changes year by year.
Unlike Jobs and IVE who were revising the designs within every 2 to 3 years.
Sooner or later my phone 12 pro max will become unsupported, when that day comes I would like to buy something new not the same.Jobs only led the OG—>3G/3GS—>4/4S transitions?
5/5S—>6/6S/7/8 were all identical…
X/XS/11 were very similar
12/13/14/15/16 being similar makes sense but the 15/16 going Titanium significantly dropped weight and now expanded screen size.
Phones are more expensive now and built to last. I don’t know why it’s a problem that someone’s 12 is serving them well still. Is it just boredom? If the 12 works fine, from 4 years ago, is that not stating something about the quality of Apple’s manufacturing?
How are you supposed to hold that phone? I already have problems with accidental screen touches with my 14! Sure, it looks good from a sci-fi perspective, but unless accidental touch rejection gets a LOT better, that phone is just going to be a frustration factory for me.I am going out with a limb to suggest John Ives vision of a single slab of glass.
When Apple introduced the X they ditched the home button in favour for the first steps to a full screen display.
The iPhone Slim or Air is not a X moment, for myself the next X event is when Apple embraces the image below and rids us of that hideous dynamic distraction.
By getting rid of the Dynamic Island and bezels Apple will be able to embrace a full and more wider display.
Finally it will also open the doors to transparent displays and other future tech possibilities.

The specs you listed looks like the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Ultra smartphone. I know that doesn't count as "revolutionary", but the least that Apple could do is catch up to Samsung.I present the iPhone Ultra:
- 7-inch Display
- 5000 mAh Battery
- 3000 nit QD-OLED Screen with 144 Hz refresh rate
- An A series processor that’s on par with the M2 or M3 Pro
- Screen with an anti-reflective coating
- FaceID and Front Camera under the display
- More vibrant titanium colours for the frame
- Action and Camera Control buttons
- 48 MP 1” Main Camera Sensor
- 48 MP Ultrawide Camera
- 48 MP Telephoto Camera with 10x Optical Zoom
- Another 48 MP Telephoto Camera with 3x Zoom
- 48 MP Front Camera
- 45W Wired Charging and 25W Wireless Charging
- 12 GB of RAM with at least 256 GB of Storage going upto 2 TB
- USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 transfer speeds
- A new Sapphire Crystal Ceramic Shield replacement
- Can run MacOS if plugged into an external display
There are very good reasons besides cannibalization. An iPhone that turns into a Mac when docked, or at least has the same experience as a docked iPad which would allow the software experience to move completely seamlessly from docked to handheld modes.
There is no reason not to do this except Apple is afraid of product cannibalization.
You could go from there and make Airplay 3 to allow docking wirelessly for hotels and coworking spaces and maybe even come up with a way to more quickly switch between peripherals than bluetooth pairing. It's 2024 and we still somehow haven't solved the problem of seamlessly connecting to workstations as we go to school, work, and travel.
The haters here will never admit to it, but Apple is missing out on a foldable iPhone/iPad. I want an iPhone/iPad that’s 10” when folded out and folds to about the same size as a Pro Max. Yes, the crease looks bad from an angle, but the Samsung Fold looks amazing. Have dual app support with great features. My ultimate phone is a dual OS that runs iOS and Android at the same time. Android on one side of the fold and iOS on the other? Sometimes both? Samsung builds it and it runs Apple SoC and OS including MacOS. Just rip the bandaid off and let us run our devices the way we want to… Laugh all you want, but people who actually want to “own” their devices should want this too. We pay for the devices, and we should be able to do whatever we want for them. I am sick of AAPL by TIM. I want a real device I own and can do whatever I want with THAT FOLDS!I really want a foldable iPhone.
Even the Galaxy Ultra doesn’t have a lot of the stuff I’ve listedThe specs you listed looks like the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Ultra smartphone. I know that doesn't count as "revolutionary", but the least that Apple could do is catch up to Samsung.
Ditto on your features + the following:Since so many in the forums have been disappointed by the 16 Pro: What new features would have been truly groundbreaking for you? What would you consider a revolutionary update at this point?
Personally, I was last wowed by the iPhone X’s design. Since then, the updates have been incremental to me, but added up nicely over time.
These features would get me excited:
I’m not too much into foldables (yet), but I can see how people would love a foldable iPhone, especially if it came without a stupid crease.
- Full screen design with no DI, hole punch etc, just pure screen
- Materials that don’t scratch or break, so I could comfortably use the phone without a case (I’m clumsy and drop it all the time)
- Variable optical zoom up to 10x
So, what are the features that would make you buy a new iPhone in a heartbeat? You're welcome to dream big 😁
We’re not talking about pre installed privacy shields. We are talking about display tech that can limit viewing angles on-demand.Preinstalled privacy shields are only a good idea if they are optional like the mate glass on the iPad, because not everybody will like that, like me or anyone else who uses their phone at odd angles or to show something to multiple people at the same time.
