iPad Air bought new at release, wifi only, cellular turned off. This ipad is on ios 11, but the lag was happening on ios 10 too.

A few months ago I began to experience laggy typing, mostly in Safari. Got so bad that I reset this ipad to factory last night (settings and content, did not restore its prior backup but did sign intoiCloud and iCloud photo library.). The typing lag is still happening without installing any third party apps. Funny, as i was typing this post, the lag improved then disappeared, but it will be back.

I can't see why this would be a hardware problem. I have eliminated third party apps. Happens on all wifi systems, not just my usual ones. Could there be some problem with my iCloud account??

The original air is actually pretty old. Although basic operations shouldn’t have lags like that but I noticed this on my iPad 4 as well.

Maybe get a new device if it really annoys you that much. That’s what I did.

Try this
1. Connect to computer
2. Put iPad into DFU mode
3. Restore iPad when prompted
4. Set iPad up as new (don't restore any backup)
5. Go into settings and Siri and Search and turn off search and Siri for all apps.
6. Optional: Turn off background app refresh for apps as well

After these steps let the iPad sit 20-25 minutes and don't use it, let it "settle" from the fresh install after that begin redownloading apps but remember to turn off any apps spotlight search when you download them.

Thanks folks. I took it to an Apple store. Hardware check fine. They flashed it back to new firmware/OS, deeper than reset available to users. Seemed better so I have started reinstalling apps. Hopefully get more years out of it before having to drop a grand, although split screen would be nice.

In settings > Safari
turn off:
Search engine suggestions
safari suggestions

Should fix any lag typing in Safari.
