Don't forget that you can change the icons, and use a different launcher to make everything as a whole look better. One thing I like about android is the fact that each icon is different, and isn't just a square, they have a 3d effect to them.

That's new, it's too late - ugly is the norm in Android, because it was allowed from the outset. Those are "recommendations" whereas the Apple HIG is VERY strict, with good reason - you're using THEIR platform to make money - so respect that AND the image of your company, and make an effort!!! :p

Do you know what another FAIL is with Google? They can never make up their minds what to call something, or how to theme an interface - "Play Store"? So I buy only games there? No? Oh... - explain how that relates to APPS? Apple call it "The App Store" - it does what it says on the box.

I do agree about the Play Store. I'd much prefer if they split Videos and Music into a different application, like one app would be Google Apps and the other would be Google Media or something.
And another thing, the categories for Games in the Play Store is HORRID, at least the Amazon App Store has that right. The categories are: "Arcade & Action", "Brain & Puzzle", "Cards & Casino", "Casual", "Live Wallpaper" (Games, really?), "Racing", "Sports Games" (the "Games" at the end is stupid, this is the games section, we don't need the redundancy), and "Widgets" (GAMES???)
What about Strategy games, RPGs, Adventure games, etc? And Widgets and Live Wallpapers? Those are GAMES?
It makes using my Android tablet for casual gaming very difficult, I'd like to utilize the bigger screen for gaming, but I find myself only using my Android tablet for reading and YouTube. I don't see how Android buffs can say Android is so much better than Apple when it's media store (the biggest part of using a mobile device IMO) is so lack luster. (Sidenote: I'm not bashing Android, I enjoy it, it's just the Apple media ecosystem is so much better)

Icon obsession runs rampant after Apple jostles the faithful. Set in their ways, emotions now run rampant.

Perhaps all this noise about icons is a result of expectations set via all the hype surrounding J.Ive & his purported other wordly skills.

To the average well adjusted consumer it's nothing more than a colored screen element.

If Google want me to help to improve their crappy OS, they can hire me :D

Laggy?

Send me all your iPhones, and I'll buy you an S4 and ship it to you, tomorrow :p

My comment wasn't about my iPhones. I love my iPhones but I don't see anything wrong with the icons in the OP. and I honestly like those icons better than iOS 7 (at this point). I felt iOS needed a facelift but as far as the icons go they could have done a hell of a lot better.

I don't see much putting people in boxes there...

The relevance to one being "well adjusted" is totally bizarre, but if it were "just a coloured screen element", we'd just draw coloured blobs and leave it at that - maybe you should consider watching the WWDC design videos - you'd learn. A LOT.

*facepalm*

Aw yes, let's just intentionally misalign the icons so they look worse than they really do.

of course, I suppose you could just use ios icons in android if that's what you wanna do :D

What about the fact that the Apple program used to sync books, television shows, movies, photos, calendars and contact information is called iTunes?

I suppose it could be far worse than Android... we could have Nokia's Symbian icons

What about the fact?
Well, to use your terminology: "iTunes"? So I sync only music there? No? Oh... - explain how television shows, movies, photos, calendars, contact information relates to TUNES? Android call it "Android File Transfer" - it does what it says on the box.

Apparently a differing opinion based on observation & experience causes angst.

There are tons and tons of easily used icon packs for Android. Why would you use the defaults? I don't.

In this case, it'se a completely moot point. Moving on...

I like Android, but I have to agree that I hate how the icons are not uniform in height or size. Thats why I use a custom icon pack

Intentionally attempting to make icons look similar and uniform just makes them harder to distinguish, which is the primary idea behind having icons in the first place. I greatly prefer android's icons to iOS's icons (6 or 7).

It's worth noting that there are some really clever third party icons on iOS.
