If the next iPhone X comes PHYSICALLY different, such as NO notch or much thinner bezels, or is thinner and/or lighter, I'll probably upgrade.

BUT,

if the form factor is the same, the only upgrade that might make me upgrade is a better selfie camera. So if the next selfie camera is 8MP and takes significantly better selfies overall, I'll probably upgrade.

It will look identical with upgrades to the cpu/gpu, cameras and a new color

I'm really conflicted if this is the case. I feel like why should I shell out fresh dollars just for better selfies? But it IS an important feature for me. I like to go places and do things so I feel like I owe it to myself to have the best selfie camera out there :(

I’m upgrading if the screen is bigger. However, the screen MUST be made by Samsung. I don’t want any LG crap.

Oh yeah I forgot about that plus model everyone is talking about. I like the idea a lot actually, and I don't have small hands (lol). But I'm not sure if I'll enjoy carrying that thing in my pocket especially if it's heavy.

I don't know. It would have to be something really spectacular. What that is, I don't know.

Makes sense. I never used to upgrade too often, or at least tried not to haha.

I don’t like the idea of shelling out fresh dollars for a few upgrades but hey what can I say.

Can You please tell me why the Samsung is better than the LG? I was also wondering whether the current iPhone tens have the Samsung or not? Thanks.

  • Faster FaceID
  • Support for all the latest LTE bands
  • More scratch resistant glass
  • 10W Qi charging
  • More color choices

What would more LTE bands mean? Like how does it help?

Yes more scratch resistant would be great. My iPhone X screen has some scratches. Not badly but still there are some.

Faster wireless charging would be nice and sure a matte black like iPhone 7 would be great!!

Or even a darkish red (not too bright).

In the US, the most notably missing is LTE band 71 (600 MHz), used by T-Mobile. T-Mobile is using this band for 5G, as well as for improving coverage nation wide.

It also doesn't help that iPhone X lacks 4x4 MIMO and License Assisted Access (Apple disabled these two features on iPhone X with Qualcomm modem because Intel modem lacks these features). Enabling them will boost the maximum throughput in certain areas.

I see, I think I understand. So basically it's faster? Right now I have AT&T unlimited data I think, but it's not the fast one. Meaning my LTE speeds aren't that fast, maybe 3mbps or something like that if I remember right.

It's good enough though. When I'm out on the town, I'm not exactly streaming movies lol. And so far it works fine for checking facebook, etc.

Better phone reception and reliability thru improved performance of radio, antenna, 4x4 mimo, etc.

So, probably not upgrade until real-world performance proven.

I think it will be a combination of both. Samsung will continue to produce the 5.8 iPhone X, however it was also confirmed that LG did sign a contract with Apple to supply OLED panels as well for the 6.5 iPhones.

Is Samsung better? and if so in what way?

Knock on wood but I’ve never had a reception issue.

I would upgrade if there’s a version two of Face ID. It is far too slow in my opinion, and that’s the one thing that soils the experience with the X. Also, if they improve the camera, especially in low light situations.

Significant camera improvements, especially in optical zoom. My last two vacations I didn't take my DLSR with me and only used the iPhone X and captured some great pictures. The only weakness is when I need to get closer (i.e. a zoo).

Other than that, the phone is amazing. Face ID is fast and almost perfect (only issue is when the Sun is at my back) and with iOS12 this thing flies.

I’ve decided to keep my iPhone X another year. It’s more than enough of phone for my needs. My iPad is ancient so I’m gonna update that this fall instead. And maybe a new iMac in early 2019.

I kept my 6 plus 3 years before upgrading to the iPhone X, and the 3rd year turned into kinda of a choir to use it. So I won’t go 3 years between models again, but 2 seems about right. I buy the phones outright.

Big changes in Gen 2 Face ID. :apple:

While this is bound to be true, my Face ID never fails now...and it’s plenty quick imo.

If I desired to switch to T-Mobile, and the new model supported B71.

I keep mine in a case, so color doesn't matter too much to me. I tend to only use wireless charging at night, so faster than 7.5W isn't as important to me. LTE is important as new bands are released.

Apple will obviously make changes to Face ID. I’m sure they will make some refinements where necessary with speed and accuracy. I’m confident that will be a highlight during this years Keynote.
