Offshoot from another thread....without getting too PRSIy, what would you change if you were in charge?

Mine are simple:

Move the clocks ahead an hour and stay there. Would settle for a 30 minute compromise.
Move USA to the Metric System LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD (except for, I think, Burma)
If you don't get your kids' their vaccinations, they have to go to a special school with the rest of the non-vaxers. If they make it to college, they can join the real world.
No more streaming services allowed. We have like three major ones and half a dozen on the way. Enough.
Any movie made for one of the streaming services can not be nominated for an Oscar. They have the Emmy awards.

I don't know, that's about it for now.

Yes.

Wouldn't do much. They would still go to Chuck-e-cheese, WalMart, on the bus etc.

Nope.

I truly don't care that much.
Emmy's lost any respect from me when Twin Peak The Return didn't win anything, and wasn't nominated for the best awards. Just Episode 8 should've been reason to award it with an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, and maybe a Nobel Peace Prize.

I don't know, that's about it for now.

I'd begin teaching meditation (of any kind, letting the kids choose) in schools. I think it would greatly help in reducing their stress, and quite probably even crime.

Metric system for sure, our measurements system is so disjointed and nonsensical you’d think it was a joke from back in the day that just carried on via inertia.

When I immigrated to this lovely country, I adapted to the language. I adapted to the form of government. I adapted to the laws. I adapted to the work environment. I adapted to the general behavior.

For the good of me, I can't adapt to this freakin' measurement system. I can't. It's just more difficult, it doesn't make any sense. Pound, ounces, liquid ounces... and often not even Americans know their own system. I remember once at Target's deli I asked something like "8 oz of ham" and the dude replied "oh we only have pounds." Sounds like a bad joke, but it's real.

Yup, it’s a total joke. Conversions are completely arbitrary. Metric makes sense across even different kinds of measurements!

I would go for this. Or keep it the same all year. The concept of DST is silly anyways.

Would settle for a 30 minute compromise.
This would create even more of a hassle, I would just change ti at 1 hour increments.

I could get on board with this one too.

not sure if I care about this one.

Horrible idea, and would be a good recipe to have increased prices.

Just because there are 10 streaming services out there, doesn't mean you have to sign up for all of them.

Any movie made for one of the streaming services can not be nominated for an Oscar. They have the Emmy awards.
Why does it matter what media platform they are on?

I couldn't care any less about these awards, and outside of the industry, I find it strange that people still do care...

These type of award ceremonies are filled with people spewing their political agendas, preaching to others how to live their lives, while not practicing what they preach.

I don't know, that's about it for now.

A class on financial management in schools starting at an early level.

Bring back home economics in schools.

Have ISPs be honest when it comes to what broadband speeds people would utilize. People overpay for speeds that would hardly ever utilize.

Apple and Nintendo to team up for a tvOS version of the virtual console store.

Increased penalties for people texting while driving. Also add applying makeup while driving.

Have blind spot monitors standard on vehicles.

For cars, make ABS an option, or at least give people the ability to turn it off.

To be honest, Italians don't have much of a government anyway.

How about just round them up and put them into internment camps? /sarcasm

Don't like them, don't pay for them.

Why shouldn't they be allowed to win an Oscar? In reality, I couldn't care less about any of the awards shows.

The last two were tongue in cheek. But they are a tv service. They win emmys for their shows, their movies should
Go up for the TV movie of the year, like any other network’s films.

Ok, cool.

In second thought if I was in control, I would abolish all of the award shows.
Don’t worry, in a few years they Will be gone. No watches them anymore. They will probably wind up being streamed on Netflix.

Fortunately we are becoming more metric every day. What’s kind of funny, is that when I was driving in France recently, speed is not so bad, but I had a little conversion chart in my head:
  • 70 kph= 44 MPH
  • 90 KPH= 55 MPH
  • 130 KPH= 80 MPH
HOWEVER, the thing is that the English units of measurement, specifically for cooking have superior very comfortable, quality units, at least if you grew up with them. :D

For example, simple, small quantity whole numbers:
  • 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
  • 8oz = 1 cup
  • 2 cups= 1 pint
  • 2 pints= 1 quart
  • 4 quarts = 1 gallon.
These things are registered in my brain and I can easily picture their volume. This is where English Measure triumphs, I mean 1 gallon = 3.78541 liters., 1 cup = .236588 liters or 236.588 milliters, ick! :)

I don’t think metric even addresses volume measurement for cooking, which I admit growing up with, makes a difference. For cooking give me the teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, the pints, and the quarts! There is something terribly unromantic about replacing a tablespoon with 1.4787e-5 cubic meters, lol. I know, you’d really replace it some weight measurement 1TBS= 15ml or 500 grams, double ick! :D

Edit: fixed liter to gallon conversion.

And in the same reality, to someone who has used the Imperial system his whole life, adapting to the metric system is just as nonsensical. I know a lot of the metric system champions have a very difficult time believing that, but it's true.

I work as a mechanical engineer, specifically in HVAC, and 90% or more of the job is done in Imperial units. Cooling capacity is measured in Btuh, or tons of refrigeration; water flow in gallons per minute; water pressure in feet of head or pounds per square inch; pipe sizes in inches - but at the same time, all the electrical info is metric. It would be an absolute nightmare to convert everything in the HVAC world to metric all at once - all of the quick conversions, rules of thumb, etc. that everybody uses to quickly (!) calculate things on a moment's notice would go away.

In reality, this whole "the rest of the world uses metric and America doesn't" is a big steaming load of crap - we use both systems with great regularity, as do other countries.

That's because the entire country is a real life Monty Python skit.
Just no, please do not talk about my country that way, it might seems like that to you, but having lived in the US for 3 years (for college) would not live there and much more prefere to live in Italy.

Do we have problems? Sure we do an dmay be we are more vocal than other and less "secretive" so it might seems like we have more than others, the reality is, pretty much everyone has probkems.

The one we have here, are the one i prefere to have :D

Well Trump just came out in favor of leaving DST in place all year so now I'm not so sure.

Kidding! Please don't move to PRSI!!!
