I don't blame you.

Hooray hooray!, someone who shares a semi-similar opinion of the place I take learning. A lot of the locals I know from Flint are fine, but the a lot of the people surrounding my school are not worth the time of day....literally, I don't tell them what time it is ;) seriously.

Yes, far too many strange people just wandering around. I even once saw an old lady (had to be in her upper 70's) just spinning around in circles in the right hand turn lane of the Miller and Ballenger Highway intersection.

They are about my age.

They usually just yell things like "Hey, kid!", trying to get my attention.

Offer to smoke them out?

Seriously, though, what city is this in? There really aren't that many bad areas around anymore. Not many where you'd get killed by kids in broad daylight, anyway. If a kid ever assaulted you, you'd sure as hell have him put away, and he probably knows that. So don't be afraid. On the contrary, try to meet them. If they asked about your car that doesn't sound so threatening...sounds like a conversation starter to me.

tazers are always fun for the whole family. ;)
He could always buy them off with some beer.

You can always hope they'll get drunk and play in a busy street.

The second they give you trouble, go out their and kick their asses!!

Seriously.

If they are bothering you, don't let them.

Go down there and if they start bothering you, with all the confidence you can muster, just take one of them out, and then turn directly to another one and do the same.

If you do this with 100% confidence, they will get scared and run.

Any dude who walks in to a group of people out numbering him, and still has the guts to start handing out ass-whoopings with confidence, is going to appear as a pretty bad dude - regardless if he could actually finish the job or not.

Trust me...it works. I'm not a big guy and I'd like to avoid fighting all together, but I learned sometimes the only way to avoid 6-7 fights at once were to take 2 on initally...the other 5 will split.

Nothing is more terrifying than confidence. :)

I dont know why but this made me laugh

I gotta admit- I didn't read all teh advice thrown your way-so this just from the gut- but why not talk to them and say - "what's up?".There have been times when I seemed like a surly punk kid- but if someone we were hassling talked to us- it helped the situation. At least you'll get an idea who you're dealing with. And it'll be easier for you if you confront them with words first. Tell them you see them hanging around and want to know what's up since you work around there. Good luck.

Flint is still one of those places where you could get killed/assaulted in broad daylight by "children", it is one of those dangerous places that still exists.
I know three friends who have been mugged at gunpoint by youth in Flint, damn close to the school grounds too! one even on school grounds . Granted the one on school was late at night but still, that is pretty audacious to mug someone on school property (we have a small campus so it isn't like they were well hidden).

Anyway, getting them put away is obviously the end all, but getting the cops there once something happens could take days. The city is bankrupt and the state is funding police/fire departments. Needless to say, they are not at full strength and everyone knows it so the lesser people lash out knowing they have more space to do so.

I was thinking this story wasn't so bad, but then he mentioned Flint and I truly feel sorry for him. I would be somewhat afraid if a group of youths was pestering me day in and day out while I was just trying to work :(
I had one kid threaten to shoot me all because I bumped shoulders with him on the sidewalk....like 20 feet in front of the campus center (where security is). We were walking in opposite directions, small sidewalk and he didn't budge from his path in the dead f***ing center (I HATE it when people are this self-important) and we bumped shoulders, he and his 'possy' swing into action all around me and I just keep my head up and keep walking. they are cursing and yelling, the kid I bumped, rather that bumped me, threatens to shoot me here if I don't give them money and ****. I tell them to go home because there parents are certainly worried  (these are all probably 8-14yr olds) and then I alter my path towards the campus center instead of where I was going, just to get them to go away.

As you can see, not a nice place to live/work/be.

Yep. It's a real nice place to live. Which reminds me, my house was almost broken into the other day... in broad daylight... with neighbors and everyone around and about their own houses. Thank God we have a dog with a growl that could make satan quivver. :D
