oh goodie. lets talk about iPads then. lets see if i get more rude comments about my opinions.
if your buying an iPad for a business or maybe for any reason what so ever. it is very important that you buy a cellular enabled iPad. a lot of people here are going to tell you that wifi is everywhere, and that tethering makes cellular not needed. do not listen to these people. and besides. you can get 200 mb of free data from tmobile or add it to your share plan ( AT&T or verizon ) for only $10 a month.
the reason why cellular is very important is because of theft. if you lose your iPad or if your iPad gets stolen, the only way it can phone home to apple.com or to be placed in lost mode or erased, is if the iPad has connected to that wifi hotspot before. iPads that are locked by a passcode only connect to wifi networks that it has connected to before, or that it knows the password too
free wifi like starbuckcs and mcdonalds will not work either. because the locked iPad cannot click on "I AGREE"
if you want to save money on the wifi only model and you are worried about theft you should either take advantage of apple's engraving offer to engrave your passcode on the back of your iPad, so people can use it. or by not using a lock code at all
another problem with wifi only iPads is they base their location on scanning the wifi neighborhood, finding a way to contact the internet, and submitting the mac id numbers (serial numbers of the base stations) to apple. and then thanks to all the volunteers that apple has (meaning us) they send back the location to where apple thinks the iPad is.
this is nice. but its not the same as GPS
if you buy the cellular model. it will have a real GPS chip. so therefor any location it sends back will be more accurate. and it will be live, thanks to your data plan.
no matter where your cellular enabled iPad is, maybe at a criminals house, or at the pawn shop or lost on the freeway, the cellular iPad will tell you where exactly it is in 15 seconds
compare that to a wifi enabled ipad which won't even have your phone number on its lock screen , because it cannot connect to that wifi hotspot unless it has connected to it before
maybe traffic will jam up pn the freeway and someone will drive by with wifi hotspot it connected to before! yeah but that can take years. and the iPad only has 10 hours of batteries
people will bring up that the sim card can be ejected. but a cellular enabled iPad stands a better chance of being found then a wifi only tablet that has no way in heck of ever being located ever again
i think all the news stories about peoples iPads being recovered were all cellular models.
if your iPod gets stolen and it won't respond to find my iPhone because its in wifi no wheres ville. maybe you can get it back by printing lost fliers with the picture of your iPad and a telephone number you can be reached at as well as the lock code
if someone finds your iPad , if they know what your lock code is, you will get it back just as quick as a cellular model
the cost of the cellular model is $129 extra. the data plan required to get your lost iPad back is $0. i think its well with it. maybe you can glue the sim tray shut
its not like I'm saying don't buy an iPod touch 5th gen , and spend a 2 year contract of $1700 on an iPhone for the sole reason of getting your iPod touch back. , all I'm saying is spend the extra $129, get the free data plan
, and if t-mo doesn't work out, then take it to AT&T and think about spending $10 on it. or not. its up to you
if your are in a good tmo area. you can stick with the free plan .. and if u run into trouble u can add extra data to your plan , on another computer, so it won't run out of data.
free data runs dry and no more data at all. so turn off everything but find my iPhone for cellular
paid data is unlimited and slows down after your high speed data is being used.
any paid data plan ( liike $15 or $20 now?" ) gives you unlimited music streaming on an iPad. just like if you paid $50 for an iPhone
