Hello. I have a launch day iPhone X, with the battery health reading at 89%. There are 17 days left for the $29 battery replacement before the price increases. A few days ago, I was all for having the battery replaced. Now I’m wondering if I should have the battery replaced or wait for it to go under 80% and have it replaced before my AppleCare expires 11/1/19. I do want to add, that I will be upgrading to next year’s XS Max, whatever the name will be.

I don’t have much experience with having parts on my iPhones replaced. After having the battery replaced, what do I check on my phone to make sure it’s working how it should before I walk out the Apple Store? I’ve read a few articles on here where customers didn’t check their phone until they got home and realized something was wrong. I do plan to take pictures of my phone before dropping it off.

There really should not be much you have to do. Just inspect the phone for uniformity post repair, check your battery health under settings, and if you find any issues outside the store, Apple will address your concerns.

Do an immediate soft reset and run some core and 3P apps on-site. Only take minutes. Maybe test finger press selecting accuracy as well.

Today I took my X in to get the battery replaced. During that process the rep kept trying to persuade me not to have the battery replaced. The word free was thrown around since I have AppleCare+, and I told him I’m not your normal customer and want to have my battery replaced. 1.5 hours later I came back to pick my phone up and was told my phone was broken in the process so I was handed another X free of charge and a free accessory.

Lol. I was reading the thread (before your above reply) & was about to post that you may end up with a new device as that’s what happened to me when I went in store to make use of the iPhone 6s battery recall - the adhesive on the battery would’ve ripped out other components, so they just replaced the phone for free.

This is the service we pay for.

Care to elaborate how they broke your phone during the repair process?

They didn’t go into detail even though I asked. To be honest, I preferred to have the device I originally paid for, but they suggested having another sent to me in a few days and I can not be without a phone so I accepted it.

I was really hoping to have my original device back. That’s what I got back when the screen had to be replaced 4 months ago.

Had that happened to me! Also replaced a crack screen. Then a few months wanted to battery replaced. They “broke something” and replaced it with a new phone. My 8 had a mark or two on the body so it was nice getting a new one.

I had a 3D glass protector on the front and a glass protector on the back that was put on so nice several of the reps didn’t know it was on there. I loved that screen protector and had to order another one.

24 hours later and I might have to have the battery in the replacement iPhone replaced. It will not charge past 80%.

Oh that stink.

A rep said to wait 24 hours for everything to finish downloading from iCloud (already done that) and to move my phone to a cooler location. He also said it was software related. I honestly do not feel like driving back to the Apple Store during the holiday season and dealing with the crowds. Every Apple Store by me charge for parking and it ranges from me $4 - $6 for just an hour.

After hearing Apple’s concerns about damaging the phone, I was glad they opted to swap it.

I’ve had it done twice, once with the 5 (for a camera fault) & the 6S. Both a year after purchase, so I consider myself lucky - fresh iPhone (& battery) for the majority of ownership.

Ahh yeah, that’s the catch. I had a film protector on back then which they tried to re-apply on the replacement...massive fail, but they were cheap, so I purchased another one.

If you had an expensive glass protector on yours, I would’ve asked if they could apply their stock standard Belkin screen on your replacement, but seeing as you’re getting a new phone, don’t get your hopes up.

Strange it’s at 80%. Either that battery is not new or they inadvertently replaced your battery with one that was already ‘Used.’ I wouldn’t accept that, but I gather you will address this later on.

Ya just wait imho. It’s a zoo right now.

Yeah, about a week ago I went to get a replacement battery for an iPhone 7 that I passed on to my wife. I went to one located in a very popular mall and as much of a zoo the mall was, the Apple store was even worse. It was a large Apple store and you could barely turn around without smashing elbows with someone. I had to walk 50 feet to the Microsoft store so I could stretch out in peace.

Yes I’ll be reaching out again tomorrow. The rep is already looking into it for me.
