I wish that someone would start to manufacture rechargeable battery to apple's wireless keyboard that would have USB port for charging in the same place that apple's keyboard has a cap for batteries.

Not quite what you're looking for, but have you seen the Magic Bar? There may be other, similar options out there as well.

Maybe for now Apple thinks the current keyboard and mouse are still good for a couple of years. Or this is not Apple's priority now and there are numerous choices for third party keyboard and mouse.

Oh, yes, I forgot mobees...
Problem here is that my father, who's fed up with changing batteries when using his imac, has older 3xAA version of the keyboard.
For me, better resolution would be http://www.mobeetechnology.com/the-power-bar.html , so when I'm on a trip and using keyboard with ipad, I could recharge the keyboard from any usb socket.

But I'd still prefer solar cells and Logitech's pairing switch for 3 devices is absolutely must, but non-changeable battery is also absolutely not.
And if I'd buy apple's mouse, then Magic Feet would be nice, but it's out of stock, horribly expensive (cost more than magic bar+charger together, strange?) and usb hub should be usb3 these days...

Well, guess I'll wait some more...

Better than people complaining about starting a new one.

If you had anything valuable to add (ie insight) I would have agreed, but this was a useless revival.

Edit: and starting a new thread when one hadn't been started in over a year is legit. Starting a new thread when there is one half way down the page is unacceptable.

If I had started a new thread, I would get multiple reports of people saying "You should've used the search functionality instead of starting a new thread on the same topic that's already been created."

I resurrected a thread a year old.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, I guess.

haha 2020 takes it by a long shot. Thats hilarious.

Im hoping 2015. Put some solar in there. Make some fine tunes. You can do it apple!

The next keyboard would probably thin as paper and fragile as heck! And the next mouse would probably.... I have no idea.

Would love to see a version of the Logitech TK820 for the Mac, or at least proper drivers for it. The current model apparently works with the Mac, but according to reviews, the trackpad doesn't properly emulate the Apple trackpads and doesn't support gestures. Of course, even better would be if Apple released something similar.

If Apple is going to update keyboards, they must release a true desktop mechanical keyboard using Cherry MX Blue or MX Clear switches, or Topre switches. It needs to be comfortably large, solid, best-in-breed keycaps and switches, and at least as good as the Das S Professional for Mac, or the Matias, or a CODEkey.

Apple, if you can't do this, don't bother. Don't raise prices $100 for an inferior keyboard. Leave the market to DAS, CODE, Matias, and others. Because you're only going to piss off your powerusers, who throw away these chiclet pieces of garbage and instead purchase real mechanical keyboards, because (a) we have to get stuff done, and (b) premium mechanical keyboards can last for a decade or more with zero quality degradation.

I'm torn. I had been using a 1989 Northgate Omnikey keyboard (your (b) comment applies in spades) but with a new Retina iMac purchase I decided to switch to Apple's keyboard and "Magic" trackpad, still keeping a mouse around. Reason for that might be your (a) since it has the same keyboard feel and key placement as my MBP and same trackpad functionality (though different feel because of location).

So the question for me, answer still undecided, is am I more productive with the real keyboard or with the compatible keyboard?

No one on this forum can answer that question.
Only you can answer it, because it is you who will be using the new keyboard...

Not sure how to measure. The old keyboard is faster to type on, so it's better for "pure typing" but otherwise having the same key placement and functions wins out. In any case I've got both keyboards and can switch at any time. Hey, maybe I should just connect both at once!

dont know but i like to use my imac with non-apple mouse and keyboard, apples imac's are good but not their mouses or boards
