So I only joined to ask one question and see if anyone has seen this.... If I leave my iPhone at home connected to wifi and go to work... My Apple Watch will connect to the work network no problem and my phone and watch are in sync.... I get messages and all the wifi (not Bluetooth) features discussed in this post.... These networks are totally seperated not even the same service provider... Any idea what is making this work? It works on my wife's phone and watch too.

Thanks

Your Watch is not communicating with your iPhone. The Watch can connect directly to Wifi and do Messaging and many other things all on its own.

Just turn your phone off and let your Watch connect to Wifi and check it out.

Apparently it works for functions that use Apple servers as a relay. The watch is able to reach those servers from any network, as can the phone.

When it's connected directly to wifi, you'll see a cloud symbol on the settings glance. I see this often because my watch likes to disconnect from my phone often and doesn't reconnect until restart both devices.
