Thats right, the Sears Tower in Chicago is now the Willis Tower.
CHICAGO — The Sears Tower has officially become the Willis Tower in a ceremony in downtown Chicago.
The country's tallest building and one of the world's iconic skyscrapers was renamed Thursday after London-based insurance brokerage Willis Group Holdings as part of its deal to lease 140,000 square feet of space in the tower.
Company Chairman and CEO Joseph Plumeri and Mayor Richard Daley unveiled a sign out front bearing the tower's new name.
The 110-story skyscraper had been called the Sears Tower since its opening in 1973. It's original tenant, Sears Roebuck and Co., moved out in 1992.

I hear that earlier DISGUSTING...... More US hishtory being bought and erased

Chicago's Standard Oil Building --> AMOCO Building ---> . . . Aon Center?

The MetLife Building in NYC used to be the Pan Am building

Is anybody really going to call it Willis Tower?
It depends upon your history/how old you are/etc.

For instance:
Chicago's Standard Oil Building --> AMOCO Building ---> . . . Aon Center?

The MetLife Building in NYC used to be the Pan Am building
I still refer to the first building as the Standard Oil building, because that's what it was called when I was growing up. I refer to the second building as the MetLife building because that's what it was called when I first learned of its existence.

So I will most likely still refer to it as the Sears Tower for the rest of my life, but newer generations will always call it by its new name.

And Chicagoans (is that a word?) will continue to call it the Sears Tower as they call Macy's, Marshall Field.

The MetLife Building in NYC used to be the Pan Am building

I still refer to it as Pan Am building.

No one is going to refer it as the Willis Tower, I live in a suburb near Chicago and everyone i know simply think the name change is stupid and they and I wont refer it as Willis

Is anybody really going to call it Willis Tower?

not here. very unlikely. i work for a souvenir store, all our items with sears tower on them are not going to change to willis tower afaik

And Chicagoans (is that a word?) will continue to call it the Sears Tower as they call Macy's, Marshall Field.

chicagoans is a word, yes. and you are correct. stubborn lot here.

I'll still refer to it as the Sears Tower.

I've heard folks say they'll start calling it the Big Willie.

This reminds me of when they changed the name of the iconic 'SkyDome' to the 'Rogers Centre' :rolleyes:

See, corporate naming of stadiums really bothers me, because it blatantly reminds us that sports are about making money. I miss the days when stadiums were named to honor people who made a difference in the sport.

But changing the corporate name of a commercial office building? Doesn't really bother me.

I do like the nickname "Big Willie" though. Think I'll start using that myself. :D

What about "the building formerly known as the Sears Tower"?
...or the Willis aka Sears Tower?
...that tall building in Chicago...

What's in a name? ;)

-You guys bought one of our silly bridges in London and took it back home brick by brick.

-We rename one of your silly Office blocks, it's a fair deal?

I trust that they will install a big picture of the Queen in the Lobby, better still, she may pop over to the old colony to open it up as another great British piece of architecture.

tally ho!
