I see lots of thread starters being called trolls here. Is it just someone who starts up an argument or something? I don't get it. Seems if you like windows over os x you are a troll too...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

What's a troll?

This is a troll. ;)
Usually found living below bridges. Have a look next time you're on a river…

Forum Trolls are the Rat's Patootie of the discussion boards; They nip, nibble and naw at other peaceful members to provoke an unnecessary response and delight in flaming.

Sadly, Trolls would not have anything to feed on if other members wouldn't bother responding to them.

Trolls are under-bridge vermin, as noted and illustrated above, or in fishing, those who troll - specific to dragging bait behind boat to attract a potential catch; to wit:

There is also the general allegation of trolling (often made in error) specific to Discussion Boards, chiefly made by those who refuse to accept opposing opinion and wish to control and/or micromanage discussion to one point of view or their preconceived point of view and label all other points of view submitted as trolls or trolling.
