I got my ibook se today. See specs below.

It's running 10.3.9 right now, and I have this tiger disc that I could potentially toss in the DVD drive. (that's right...clamshell with DVD  )

It seems to run above average with x.3, but would tiger be :

1. Faster
2. Same but with perks ;)
3. SLOOOOWW.......(skip).......WEEERR

I found panther discs in my garage. I installed tiger, and it feels about the same. I'm yet to thouroughly test the performance.

If you upgrade the RAM to at least 512mb then it should run pretty well, it does on my iMac

Get Tiger. It is much faster in almost every way. I too would recommend upgrading the RAM amount if it is under 512.

Enjoy Tiger. ;)

yeah it's 320 ram. I want a 512 upgrade... My whole plan was to sell the powerbook in my sig, and just relax with a nice clamshell+excess cash. (all my real computing is on my desktop).

I already paid 362 for the ibook and an airport card.

Memory upgrade ~$100 (less if i can sell the 256 stick)
possible new battery ~$70

Total spent ~$530

Cash gain~ $250-350

I wonder if it's worth it.

another question. I try to play heavy movies. Like 1.5 Gig reduced DVD rip movies. Works fine on the powerbook g4, but the ibook se skips and just sucks. Do you think a ram upgrade would solve this or do you think it would be the 8meg video card that limits the playability?

If this doesnt received adequite response here I'm going to make it a new post...

But I wonder...
