Even at the login screen, the computers name is now "MYNAME's Computer (3)". At the beginning of the week it said (2). And now, as the image above shows, the there's still a shared version of my computer on my home network that says "MYNAME's Computer (2)".

I'm really at a loss for what to even search for to resolve this problem...so I need some other input if anyone can help.

What is your computer's name in the Sharing preference pane?

Also, call up a terminal and see what the name on the command prompt says.

Are you connected to the same network via Airport and via Ethernet? I've run into that a number of times. It only happens if the wireless network is run by the same router (or is in bridge mode), but that's not uncommon.

that nailed it...just changed it back in the preferences>sharing menu and then a restart to get rid of the shared computer with (2) still.

Didn't know it was that simple, just didn't think to look there. Thanks a bunch.
