this is just Apple hoping we won't remember ..I thought it currently started at $999 - is it now $1,099?
can you imagine the press release: MBA will stay at an incredible low price of just $1,099

initially I thought so too, but now I guess MBA pricing will be changed (increased) with the introduction of the redesigned M6 MBA.pricing being too optimostic
with A-book in the price matrix imo it will be 1199usd
Algorithmic pricing, different pricing based on browser cookies. Its $999. Have you ever wondered why so many of the tech pros whether it be on these types sites or YouTube creators that always get prices incorrect or product information wrong. I listen to the Macworld podcast weekly and they're always getting stuff wrong. Just funny to me lol.
For 5G version, price will increase by about $200-300. They don't sell many of these. The only change I want to see is 5g built in.
Hotspot is fine, built in is better.
Since I have stopped working I will switch for the first time. My current MacBook Pro is almost 8 years old and it was the worst MacBook Pro I owned. The camera does not work any more the keyboard is not good. Meanwhile my wife still uses a 13 year old MacBook Pro which is in better shape. I am pretty sure that I will be nicely surprised and that the new MacBook Air will be a better machine than my old Pro!🥲 As a MacBook Pro user now, I don’t think I could ever go back to the air…
I replaced my 2018 MBP 15" with Touch Bar, 32gb and 1tb with an MBA M4, 15", 32gb and 1tb last November. I like it a lot.Since I have stopped working I will switch for the first time. That’s actually a good thing as the mba is quite perfect at the current price pointSo the same machine with a new chip
Riveting stuff.
Sorry, I meant the "all new Macbook Air M5!"
It’s not, it will be delayed. When the MBP go OLED the MBA will adopt miniLED. Apple does this to differentiate the line and upsell. Plus the AI hike on storage, RAM and CPU the new “AI adjusted budget” price will be over $1K.I'd be very (pleasantly) surprised if MacBook Air gets OLED screen in the next couple of years. I just don't think it's going to happen, OLED is simply in the higher price bracket.
I wouldn’t say the laptop lines are perfect, the notch needs to vanish with a less intrusive experience. It looks like just dead pixels in that area with M1 MBP were released with it.That’s actually a good thing as the mba is quite perfect at the current price point
No to 90Hz, Apple likes to keep certain marketing simple with the exception of Retina Display, Liquid Retinal, XDR, blah blah. To a non-techie it’s a brain freeze moment of dismay. It would be about time for Apple to increase the refresh rate to at least 90hz - ideally 120, but that’s not happening until OLED. Also, how we still don’t have ports on the right side is baffling. Amusing how some find the current one to be close to perfect when there are obvious shortcomings which would be good QoL-improvements.
My M4 MBA 15” will last me another 5 years. A miniLED with Promotion may temp me to upgrade sooner though. 50/50 on the TouchScreen.Expecting to see only a new chip. Everything else will be exactly as it is on an M4 Air. I have the 15" M4 Air and not planning on upgrading.
M5 with 32GB RAM and 2TB/4TB SSD. Add in a SD card slot and HDMI output like on the MacBook Pros. All for just under $2K. Perfect for dongle-free travel.
Then limit the MacBook Pros to M5 Pro/Max for market segmentation.
Every time I hear 60Hz, I think of Apple. Apparently, it is the kind of association they want people to get.and a 60hz screen. yipee
Cellular capacities in a laptop is a niche market with additional SKU and increased cost. Have to add eSIM ability as well and make sure carriers compliant. I recall when iPad and AW needed special mobile carrier plans and add-on to make it happen. For 5G version, price will increase by about $200-300. They don't sell many of these.
ProMotion on a large laptop screen is not a need but a want. MBA are not really designed for gaming and most of the work is static or slow moving, scrolling on a laptop is not the same instant feel as a TouchScreen on a phone or tablet. If a laptop gains touchscreen abilities it maybe a small use case benefit. Is there any chance we get ProMotion on these? They brought it to all the iPhones so maybe there is a chance?
Apple’s profit margins also factors in after sale support and any extended recall or repairs that maybe needed. Apple does cover certain minor repairs on out-of-warranty and AppleCare omission at no cost."There is a possibility that memory upgrades will be more expensive due to DRAM shortages that have driven prices up."
So what is the excuse for the extorsionate prices up to now other than making sure the shareholders get richer.
