From what I've been told -not really. Big updates are next year?

It depends. If they're upgraded to Conroe, you're looking at substantial speed increase (because of the higher front bus speed) - not to mention support for 64-bit (which, while you won't use in the near future, you might use in 2-3 years or so...shrug)

If they upgrade to Merom, however - you're right, the front bus speed limits the speed increase to about 10% (the same as what you'd get from upgrading from the 1.83 GHz Yonah to the 2.0 GHz Yonah chip)

advice?

what about macbook? do you guys think that macbooks will be updated in september? I really need one, but I don't want to buy one and then regret it when a better version comes out the day after! advice?

here's to hope

just hoping for anything worthwhile and possibly new... maybe a new mbp case?.... cmon mr. jobs!

Please help

I really want to buy a 17" Intel iMac for school this fall, but don't want to buy something that will be outdated within the month. Should I wait until something new is introduced or should I buy it now anyway and hope that nothing big will be introduced right away making mine worthles:confused: I'm also a little worried about making the switch from PC to Mac. Is it a big change? Would I have to spend a lot of extra money buying software? Any advise is greatly appreciated:)

I'd say the MacBook Pro, Mini, and iMac are the most due for udgrages, or upgrades, if you will.

Yeah. I imagine the most interesting of the updates will make it to the show, the speed bumps/capacity upgrades will probably happen some other time with little fanfare.

No, Paris won't be used to announce updates. It's a bit weird to show up with speed bumps in hand. Even the transition to Merom is ultimately just a speed bump in most people's eyes, so I don't really expect to hear anything from Paris about it.

......the stuff they announce is available to order online at the end of the announcement - shipping may take a few days though.

Sometimes, days turn into months. ;)

My guess;

If anything, it'll be iPod updates @ Paris. Tied in with an iTMS announcement, something like European TV content being available on the store. They'll probably officially announce new European flagship Apple Stores in Paris, Berlin and Rome too.

Macs are going to get speed and video card updates in Sep/Oct, but nothing major enough to dedicate more than a show footnote to at best. For the Christmas season, I suspect the iMac and MBP will get Conroe chips, and the Core Solo mini will be phased out and replaced with Core Duo in both models. New displays with built-in iSight's will appear too for the MacPro crowd.

But won't Leopard run as 64-bit when it's released in the spring?

64 or 32.. Most users won't tell the difference, unless you want more than 4GB of RAM, from what I understand.

Well...

I think there is going to be a 12gig Nano released sometime soon, not sure about Paris.

I needed a new laptop ASAP because my dell laptop broke, which left me with my wifi stumbling toshiba unix laptop that i don't use very much, and is old. Anyways, I ended up purchasing a MBP 2.16 with 1 gig ram 100 gig 7200 rpm, 256 ati x1600 and then upgraded to 2 gig of ram. I was going to get the 120gig, but i wanted the 7200 RPM, and I have 1.2tb of storage on my network

iPhone

The iPhone is long over due considering cellphpne manufacturers like SonyEricsson have been selling phone/camera and Nano equivalent for a while now.
Apple seriously needs to get in the game before they begin to loose marketshares. The next big Apple event is at MWSF in 2007. If they dont introduce an "iPhone" at the Paris Expo, we might not see anything before Jan 2007. Given how fast the cellphones evolve, I dont think Apple can afford to wait that long without hurting sales/marketshare.

I agree, the speed with which phones evolve makes the market quite difficult for a manufacturer to make a splash with just one model.

There's also the control from the cell companies. They dicatate to the phone companies on a lot of the features in cell phones, which is something I can't see Apple bending to that easily. But then again, who knows.

There are some interesting ideas circulating on the iPhone not being a cell phone but more of a a VoIP unit. As much as this would be disappointing, it makes more sense.

As in 4GB to use it properly? That would suck quite hard.

No, I mean you can't have more than 4GB of RAM on a 32bit system.. you have to have a 64bit system to have anymore.

Ok cool I didn't know that and I see where you're coming from.

It's difficult to see many of the current models being open to more than 4GB for the a while yet (other than the MAc Pro and that's already got 64-bit processors).

Apples acquisition of the high grade communication facility couple of months back might be a part of the "iPhone" scheme.
When Apple eventually releases the iPhone, I doubt they will release more than one or two models. I doubt Apple will try to compete with LG,Moto, or SE.
