plan to buy my mac pro just after macworld on the 15th, just in case anything new is in stock. I will be buying it off the apple store website and would like to know which graphics card i should use.

I'm a web/graphic designer and animator, I use dreamweaver, photoshop, flash, aperture, final cut, and 3ds max heavily, i would like to know what would be the best for myself, I will be hooking up two 23" cinema displays, if anyone could give me any advice that would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I'd take the 8800GT as a minimum. If you get paid for your 3DS Max work, the Quadro should be much faster, but it is also much more expensive.

The Quadro FX5600, but if that is out of your budget then the 8800GT. Which may be more than enough anyway depending on how you use 3dsmax and if you are currently doing 3dsmax work on a gaming graphics card slower than the 8800GT and getting by then the quadro might be overkill.

I also plan to buy in the next week or so. I do mostly photoshop work. I only use 1 24 in display. Will going to NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB with one screen be worth the extra bucks? Or are these cards made for multiply displays.

Nope they are really for 3D applications, you should have no problem powering two 30" displays off the 2600XT.

How do the new cards compare to the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL?

I've seen the comparison between the new cards, but that doesn't really help me much in putting it in perspective. What would help is getting a feel for how the two new cards (the top end card isn't really a viable option for me) compare to what I have now, the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL in a dual 2.5 G5.

Primarily, how does the stock ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT comparable to the 6800? Both have two, dual-link DVI ports and 256 megs of RAM. Having this data point will tell me how the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT compares to the 6800.
