I find naked iPhones to be too slippery, so looking for a case to give it some grip while also being as thin as possible.

I'm wondering the same as I've never used an official case. I'm assuming the silicone case is lighter and thinner. I'll be ordering the leather case ( 12 Mini ).

Silicon for sure. I have both. Leather has okay grip but becomes more slippery as it absorbs oils from your skin. Silicon is always more grippy and stays that way.

Silicone is grippier at first but once the leather absorbs your oils it’s grippier. It’s also thinner.

Silicone is thicker with better grip. Leather is thin and very slippery, although the squared off edges might help with that.

This is simply not true. Oily leather is slippery. The oil fills the pores which is what initially provides the grip. Anyone who has had a car with a leather steering wheel will know this.

QueenTyrone is probably referring to how a brand new leather case starts out slippery, then there’s a period of time where it becomes a bit more grippy (sticky almost) before it eventually becomes hard and slick like your aged leather steering wheel (nice).

actually I’m not a fan of an aged slick steering wheel. I use this product to keep it looking new.

Worn leather isn’t oily. Not unless your eating something oily and it gets on your hands. The leather absorbs the oil. That is why leather ‘ages’. I have used the Apple leather case since they came out years ago. It certainly is true.

This.👍 But it would take years for that to happen. I only have my case for a year so it stays grippy as long as i have used it.

Never experienced this

It’s never gotten hard like a leather steering wheel for me. I choose the best leather from the Apple leather cases and never have a problem. They’re still lush and grippy and I’ve passed them down to my mom and dad. I only clean them once a month and condition them. My silicone cases though? I have to alcohol wipe them every 2 days or they’re so damn slippery. It’s annoying, I find that if you choose the lower quality Apple leather cases (which I have before) they don’t wear as nice. Or are as grippy. It’s definitely more painstaking looking through 20-30 Apple leather cases between 4-5 stores but it’s always worth while for me in the end.

Bingo, none of my worn leather on my high end bags nor leather Apple cases are oily. Idk

You mean within Apple’s leather cases there are good ones and not so good? How do you know which are the good ones?

Yup LOL, I like mine to be plush with a lot of texture and the Apple indent to be very deep and clean.

I find the opposite for me here. I always get leather but got silicone a few months ago as they were $15 on Amazon and found them thinner. The leather made my phone feel a bit bulkier and the silicone felt more tight and with the phone. I think I will go silicone for the Pro Max since I have smaller hands but prefer bigger screens so need as less bulky of a case as I can get

I have both. The Silicon is really grippy. Too grippy for me actually as i couldn’t slide it in my front pocket as the Silicon would always stick. The Leather is still grippy after using it for a year but it slides a bit more easily in my pocket. Never experienced oily leather at all. The Silicon is also bigger while the leather is a lighter, sleeker profile.
