My other subscriptions include Web Designer and Xbox 360, both of which my Direct Debits went out before the company went bust, and without any issues being sent.

My suggestion is to wait until Imagine announce what they intend to do with their recent purchase.

And mine would be to cancel all outstanding DD mandates in favour of Highbury with your bank.

Yes makes sense, although my Bank told me if they had indeed gone bust, their bank accounts would be frozen.

However, your advice is very sound. Mine were all cancelled yesterday. After some negotiating, my total loss of £31 was reduced to £20, as it appears a DD was taken a month early.

Just came across this thread as I was getting concerned that Issue 27 hadn't appeared in WH Smith or Borders shops. Ironically I was considering subscribing as I thought maybe these shops had simply decided not to stock the title.

It's such a shame if it's true that iCreate is no more as it was the one magazine I always really looked forward to. I guess the fabled iCreate website will never happen either then... sigh....

If you read through the thread, you'll see that the iCreate title has been bought by Imagine, the publishers of Mac Creative, obviously not to close it down.

So you can expect to see it reborn sometime. Whether there will be a website, who knows? Mac Creative don't seem to have one that I can see.

Whatever you do though, don't take out a subsription until you can be sure of the change of ownership.

I don't agree, it does not make sense in a small stable of mags to produce 2 mags with very simlar content, I would have purchased the subscriber base to offer them macCreative. It's what many business' do, buy market share to sell their own product to.

I always saw macCreative as a clone of iCreate anyway, and considering where the Imagine Executive staff came from, it makes sense.

Either way, wait until Imagine confirm what it is they plan to do for the ex iCreate subscribers.

When I first saw macCreative on the newsstand, my first reaction was, "It's a rip-off'. But when I looked at it, I realised it was aimed more at Mac pro-apps users, and despite its similar appearance, it is not a clone in its content.

The iCreate target audience is much bigger, including as it does the millions of iPod and iTunes customers. So it wouldn't surprise me to see it come back. The ideal outcome, for me at least, would be a combination of the two, but whether that makes economic sense, only time will tell.

I agree, though, that it's worth keeping in touch with Imagine's plans if you're an iCreate subscriber, as there may still be good news if they want to keep their most loyal existing customers.

I kind of agree with you except to say that Mac Creative make a big point of their focus on the Prosumer/high end market whereas the - to me - beauty of iCreate was its all encompassing nature, including articles for beginners as well as prosumers.

Well anyway, bottom line it's out of our hands now, so we have no choice but to be patient. In the meantime I'll check out MacCreative anyway...

Yeah, iCreate and MacCreative were definitely aimed at different types of Mac users. the name, and presentation of the magazine dilutes that though. But whereas in iCreate I could generally keep up with the whole magazine, in Mac Creative I didnt have a clue what half of the tutorials were going on about. I still bought it though because I learned a lot just reading them.

I would like to see iCreate retain its more consumer-orientated approach, symbolising the whole 'i' thing Apple have going on, and Mac Creative catering even more to the pro end. I often get the feeling MC was starting to branch towards the consumer side of things though, what with the recent 'introduction to podcasts' kind of tutorials. Perhaps they knew of iCreates slippery slide and started to diversify to take customers from them. Id like them to go back to what they were doing though, and concentrate solely on pro stuff, written in a way that suggests its readers know what they are on about. Id like to see indepth analysis of Aperture, its implications on Apples future etc.. as well as gearing the reviews towards the pro market.

I presume Imagine is run by some of the guys who ran Paragon (which launched iCreate) before that was bought by Highbury?

I picked up the last issue of Mac Creative, and seemed to be finding it's feet. I do wonder if the distinction between the two mags was somewhat artificial (in that MacCreative had to find a slightly different niche).
I'm looking forward to them merging the two magazines - and yes, hopefully a few less 'how to do something really obvious' tutorials would be good. I could quite handle losing those in favour of 'Pro' tutorials, even if I'll never buy Final Cut myself.

One thing I think could be interesting would be beginners programming - i.e. programming as a creative hobby, like 80s magazines used to do - even just showing people how to use XCode to build an interface to an AppleScript.

Looks like MacCreative have a forum :

.pdf copies of old iCreate

I live in the Chicago area and no bookstores have issue 26. Perhaps no issues were sent to the U.S. The bummer is that I have all the issues, except for Issues 14 and 5. I was hoping that issue 26 would have the .pdf file of Issue 14. In any event, are there are web sites were people can trade pdf files of back issues of iCreate? I would be very interested in obtaininng Issues 5, 14 and even 26. Anyone interested in sending or trading .pdf's? Thanks in advance.;)

Unhappy to find out the truth why one of my favorite mags is missing in my mail lately. But thanks guys for all the info.

Has anyone a clue what will happen with webdesigner ?

.... Mac Creative is published by iMagine rather than Highbury. I'm sure that if iCreate goes under, you can expect a lot of the staff to resurface there, or for iMagine to simply buy the title in the asset disposal and merge the two titles, as it still has far better recognition, especially abroad.

Mac Creative being rather, 'inspired' by iCreate, this wouldn't be too much effort...

Nice to hear my fave new magazine is in good hands.

Back page of the current issue of Mac Creative has

iCreate + Mac Creative = Next Issue

Looks like they are merging to one mag.

Ill scan it in when I get home.
