Are you positive it wasn't a sleestak? They can be hard to tell apart in a dark trap like that.

well at least it wasn't a rat with a busy tail. those things are insane. yes cute to look at sometimes. but a also a p.i.t.a.

I voted "squirrel" before continuing on to read the rest of the thread....

So it was a raccoon, eh?! Wow! Reason I voted for a squirrel is that I know a couple of years ago in one of the other buildings in my condo development they had problems one winter with squirrels and had the devil of a time getting rid of the things.

I'd love to - raccoons are really cute, but in all honesty I'm glad I can sleep in my own bed tonight without earplugs! :D

Fair enough. Now it will be interesting to see if she finds her way back... :D

She'd have to do a 3-mile swim across open water. She'd really have to love us to make it back. :D

Coincidentally, my fiancee got run into on her bike by a raccoon last night. She was pedaling along when it darted out from under a parked car, smacked into her foot, let out a squeak, somehow managed to extricate itself from under the gears and wheels before she could stop, and ran off.

Curses! I voted rat, but then I should've asked for an image comparing the trap size to the size of a dollar bill, or a quarter maybe. A rat might fit in a raccoon-sized trap, but a raccoon willn't fit it a rat-sized trap. I know, I've seen them try.

Woodrats (Neotoma cinerea not Rattus rattus) make regular assaults on our house in the woods. They're called "pack rats" up here and they make lots of noise while packing. Sleep is not an option, until they are relocated.

This was last years liberation from the underside of our house...so cute :D (check out the bushy tail)

I was disappointed there wasn't an option for El Chupacabra.

It was probably one of these disguising himself as a raccoon just to appease you.

That is one cool critter! :D

Then again, I don't think that I would want to meet him for real if he really existed.
