The title says it all. I have read that quicktime does not support it. I have been downloading alot ov video from itunes and having been using hand brake to rip vds to my laptop. I plan on getting th cables to hook up my macbook to my hdtv and to my 5.1 system. I know vlc plays 5.1 but are there any better ones out there that I should be aware of.

Only VLC has good Dolby 5.1 support. That is for sure when using the Optical Audio out.
I do know QuickTime can "see" the various surround audio channels, but I haven't seen it to be able to actually play alt the channels.
Maybe an external FW 5.1 sound system, or a surround PCI sound card will let QuickTime use all the channels, but in my experience (Mac connected to Logitech Z-680 Dolby 5.1 speaker system), only VLC can do it. :(
