something tells me the social media department at Samsung doesnt know much about the future products..
Actually of course they don't. They will be told when there are marketing assets available (like a month or two before the announcement), not while in the development stages. The social media department is probably the last one in a company to receive news.

Apple has also likely factored in the different use cases for iPads, with users switching the screen orientation of a tablet more often than they do with a smartphone.

I basically NEVER use my iPad in Portrait but use my iPhone often in landscape when watching a video.

I am sure that Slamsung will say "That feature is not a notch - it's a Visual Tools Support Region. Not a "notch" at all!

Now that others are copying, Apple needs to step up their game and do something innovative like move the notch to the center of the screen or make the entire screen a notch and wait for them to copy that. :p

Samsung really is the most unintentionally hilarious company in the world. If the next iPhone featured razors that popped out and cut you, guaranteed Samsung’s would do the same one year later.

That's more of Apple's approach. Samsung just switches gears... they have no qualms about flip-flopping. :D

If a notch is coming to Galaxy tabs, then it is sad news for me. I love my Tab S6 w/bookcover keyboard. It is head and shoulders above the iPad Pro for the things that I need to get done. But I'm not having any of this notch nonsense on a tablet.

I tolerate the "teardrop" notch on my Galaxy phone, but only because it still has a headphone jack and support for microSD card. When I need to upgrade my phone and either of those features is not available, then I'll go looking elsewhere.

Is there any company with the "courage" to ditch the notch?

2016 - Apple removes the headphone jack. Samsung mocks Apple for doing so.
2019 - Samsung removes the headphone jack on Galaxy Note 10 series

Apple does one thing... Samsung mocks Apple for it but still follows suit... Notch, charger in the box...

Notch jokes aside, aiming to shrink it even more the way Samsung did on this tablet is a nice goal to shoot for. I've never found it to be an eyesore personally, and that tiny notch is rather cute.

I don’t like the notch. The only people that do are the weird people who like anything Apple does just because Apple does it. However, I do like Face ID on the iPhone. I like it so much that I’d rather have the notch and Face ID than not have Face ID at all. In other words, I understand the reason for the notch and can live with it until the technology improves.

However, on the laptop or tablet, I’d rather have larger bezels than a notch. The MacBook Pro notch looks silly and I really dislike it (I understand the argument about greater screen space, yada yada, but it still looks silly). On a larger device there is just no reason for the notch when it’s easy to adjust the bezel size.

whereas on a tablet the notch will switch location depending on the held orientation.
I had a WTF moment when I read this, thinking it was a 'soft' notch that would always switch location to stay at the top... I guess it means the notch will always be in the same position relative to the physical screen.

I don't understand the need for an edge to edge screen on a tablet. Laptop sits on a table, fine. Phone is held on the sides. But it's usually hard to hold my ipad pro without having a thumb somewhere on the screen because it already has little edge space. Reasonable size borders on tablets don't bother me. I need somewhere for thumbs to grip.

Regardless of the notch on Samsung’s tablet, all the mockery of Apple by that crappy company had zero, ZERO, effect on iPhone sales. The iPhone 13 was the top selling smartphone in the world the past quarter. Shove that up your notch, Samsung.

And speaking of notches, the only people who have an issue with them are tech blog trolls. In the real world no one cares.

This is always the cycle. They mock it and then use it. Removing the 3.5mm slot, the notch, I am sure I forgot some.

Can’t wait until this crappy weird phase of notches and hole punches ends.

“It doesn’t bother me I barely notice it’s there” - sure, it’s still going to be looked back on and laughed at as one of those weird periods in tech.
Absolutely correct IMO. I don't care about it either, but obviously it won't be there in 5 years time so it will be seen as a curious design abnormality that the next generation will wonder why was tolerated in the first place.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is basically a laptop. 15" screen? In a tablet? 16GB memory and 512GB SSD? Sounds like a laptop to me. With the keyboard accessory, it's certainly going to be priced like a high-end laptop!
