30gb is painfully small  what on earth do you download

30GB is painfully small when your line is a 6MB cable line, it goes fast and you hardly notice it. It's mostly from TV shows, which are around 350-700 MB. I've already used 23.2GB of traffic this month, and I haven't downloaded very much. It's going to be a long month once my cap goes out and I get set down to a 64kbps line.

OOOooohhhh, my ISP just bumped my original service to a 60 GB Cap. Bonus, it's an 8MB line now too.

I'm surpised everyone has ByteController installed but not YouControlTunes!

The second one does exactly what ByteController does, plus it allows you to choose the playlist/artist/album/song from a popup menu!

Here you can post what you have on your menubar.
Display - Bluetooth - AP - Volume - Day/Time - Keyboard Layout - Fast User Switch - Spotlight

Edit: Added byte controller.
Also, is there a way to rearange theese?

Apple's menu bar items can be rearranged by cmd-dragging them. The 3rd party ones are a bit more difficult, but you might try changing the order in Login Items.

Edit: BTW, my menu bar has found its form (for now, at least): Meteorologist, iSnip, SpiritedAway, QuickSilver, MainMenu, Airport status, Keychain status, Clock, Spotlight.

Not to be overly picky, but isn't it a 6Mb line? as in bits not bytes? I would reckon you could be using Comcast (as I am) which just went from 6Mb to 8Mb and who knows on a d/l cap, but I have never heard of a 6MB line, that would be insane.

Thanks to all for the links and such, modding a few things now. I'll post before/after pics once it's all done ;)

Edit: Just like me to revive a dead thread. It was linked from somewhere else and has tons of useful info though, so I don't feel that bad :)

A little before and after fun, thanks for all of the tips :D

AdiumX, Version Cue, Temp Monitor Lite, MenuMeters CPU, batt, keychain, clock, spotlight

iSnip, Adiumx (I like the evil-duck look :) ), version cue, ceepeeyou, colored batt, keychain, modded clock, spotlight

Yeah it is technically Megabit.

Sorry to be so overly picky, I just wanted to make sure you were running around on a 6MB line making my 8Mb line look like a snail :p

If those speeds were out there, I just wanted to know where you lived and who your ISP was, and how much you paid  , plus I'm must anal-retentive like that I guess.

I wonder when apple is going to give us an iTunes controller in the menu bar?

I'm quite surprised they haven't already. Considering the popularity of Synergy and other menubar controllers, I'm surprised they haven't just thrown it into the system since all Macs come with iTunes anyway. I guess the dashboard one is alright, but I personally hate having to go into dashboard to forward a song or change a playlist, I might as well just click the iTunes icon in my dock and deal with those changes fullscreen and in nicer colors.

speaking of what Apple should put in the menu bar . . .

I use Bluephone Elite for SMS and a nice UI for my BT phone. Address Book offers the basic functions for BT phone use with your mac such as SMS, dialing out, and notifications, but you have to have Address Book open and make sure the BT icon is clicked. If Apple would make it possible to show Address Book status in the menu bar, it could be possible to access this without having to open Address Book. That would be a nice (and advanced) feature to have built in to OS X.

I noticed some people use the analog clock in their menubar...isn't that thing too small to be seen quickly, or do you get used to it? I switched to the analog for just a second, saw how it looked, and then switched back...should I give it another (longer) chance?

That would be awesome too, not unlike what MenuCalendarClock does for iCal. The only problem with all of this for Apple is why bother making those "full" apps if people are only concerned with using a menubar pulldown version? I'm sure a lot of people really use the full extent of the included software.

I would love to see a more all-in-one solution for Address Book/iCal/Mail more similar to how Entourage (ugh) handles it all, but with that Apple touch so that usability goes way up. My company just switched over to Outlook so I can use Entourage on my Mac, but I still hate the break in flow. Things don't follow what I think they should the way OSX works, so it can be frustrating at times, although I have to admit having a calendar, address book, and mail all in one app is pretty nice.

Read back in this thread to this post and you will find a simple and cool mod to the analog clock. The main reason I use the analog over the digital is for space saving purposes. I have a 12" PBook so needless to say the menubar can appear crowded very fast and icons starting bumping into text (app heads-up stuff, namely Help). The mod makes the clock look like the second image in my post here. It still comes down to preference though, but you can try the mod easy and see what you like. It made viewing the analog clock a lot easier for me.

It's not a problem. If I had the same attention to detail I'd be asking the same questions.

I must admit it got a bit too small for comfort on my 12" iBook screen. I loved the looks but had to change back to "digital" out of purely practical reasons :)o):

Now it is this...

It goes... Buttler, Main Menu (new), wclock, menu meters, ichat, battery, keychain (new), fast users, spotlight. Really have found some good use in using main menu and keychain.
