My dad calls the dishwasher the "procrastination machine" - I suppose there is some truth to that...
I suppose there is truth to that, too.

Although I prefer to think of it as a "time efficiency machine," since it frees the time I'd have been standing over a sink.

As someone who lives alone, I am perfectly content with rinsing up/washing the few dishes I generate each meal. I'm not much of a cook; lots of meals in the summer, especially, are light, no cooking or warming up required (salads, etc.) I find that it is more time-saving to wash up the dishes shortly after I've eaten and then wipe them dry and put them away immediately; sometimes I do let them air-dry, too, though.

I found that it was more time-consuming to rinse the dishes, put them in the dishwasher, wait until I'd gotten a full load, then run the dishwasher and then unload everything and put it all away. That's for just one person, though -- a dishwasher is indeed convenient when there are several people and lots of plates, bowls and serving dishes, especially when having company.

Actually, much of my best china, silver and crystal glassware requires hand-washing, anyway, and drying with a linen towel, so even at that I have more to clean up even with the dishwasher taking care of the major part of the regular serving dishes, etc., used at the meal.

I don't entertain at home much; going out to a nice restaurant and treating a friend on his or her birthday or getting together with others for conversation, congeniality and good food away from home is well worth it -- and no dishes to clean up afterward!

I just finished looking at next week's grocery store ad. Apples will be on sale. It puzzles me that anyone would want apples at a time of year when there are so many other choices of fruits that are only available for a painfully short period each year. So save the apples for the rest of the year.

But there are always some things that need handwashing.
I learned that lesson the hard way. Cast iron pans should never be put in the dishwasher. It takes a lot of work to knock off all the rust and re-season a cast iron pan.😩 It takes 10x longer when you don't know what you're doing.😭

I've been enjoying Pink Ladies, out of the fridge at the moment. Lovely. Also, those flat "donut" peaches which at the moment are wonderfully sweet.

I'm not allowed to touch Mrs AFB cast iron pans. If I did I would only continue to post on here if I could do it from 'the other side'!

Indeed.

Although if'/when I have a kitchen with a dishwasher again, there is a very real chance to I'll try to set things up so I have NOTHING that needs handwashing.
Well I believe more things could go in the dishwasher than Mrs AFB does. But I've found the secret to a long and happy marriage is to agree with her. (then when she's not looking chuck it in there anyway!) As long as I load and unload it (which I do) then I'm safe!

Well of course people want Apples. This whole site is devoted to it! 🙂
