No, not at all, agreed.

However, the former is more unsettling than the latter, to be honest.
I don’t know. Half the promises I keep hearing make me think the government must have won the lottery!
But better leave it there before we stray into PRSI territory.

Waiting for an email from our solicitor. Definitely a case of time being relative. I’m sure all is well but I’d rather know all is well!

I know that feeling; I, too, prefer (written) confirmation of such things before I can rest easy.

Re those promises, I look to the question of the character of the person making them; to me, that will determine how likely it is that they may be kept.

I've done the giving away of a really old computer thing -- one time to someone who was thrilled because it still was able to use the older version of the OS, the one with which it had initially come, which was just what he wanted. In addition, over the years I've sold various lenses to fellow photographers that I knew in person, and more recently I sold my 2015 15" MBP to a friend I've known for years. This time I decided it would be just so much more expeditious all the way around to simply pack up the whole works and tote it all to the camera shop -- and that worked out well. I had traded in things in the past there -- such as my RX100 M3 when I wanted to get the RX100 M6 last year. Sure, I probably could've gotten more than I did during the negotiations this time, but overall it was a fair deal, with me being happy and the camera shop folks being happy, too, which is the important thing.

Yes, SS, that whole Brexit thing is undoubtedly worrisome to you in terms of your own career goals and such -- I can imagine how it could put a huge spanner in the works somewhere along the way. Fingers crossed that all works out well for you! In any case, both of you are going to be affected by the Brexit thing anyway. I'm sure everyone wishes the darned situation would just be resolved one way or another so that the country can move on......

Another sunny day here, and the temperature is in the low 50's, with not much wind, so a much more pleasant day than yesterday! Have to run a couple of errands but also I'm thinking I'll take a walk around the lake with one of the new lenses, see what I can find to shoot....

Enjoy the shooting. Are they weather sealed? They’d need to be here in the UK. Horrible weather today.

Yes, I traded in my original MBP, with no problems, and sold my first 11" MBA to a colleague with whom I got on pretty well - who had expressed an interest in it, so I've also either sold or traded in computers.

Brothers (both of them) have been the beneficiaries of my older computers the rest of the time, although I bought Decent Brother a brand new (maxed out) rMB when he had a significant birthday a few years ago.

Re cameras, I have always traded in old cameras to reputable stores, - ones licensed to sell, and handle and repair the brand in question, usually when I wished to buy a newer model, or upgrade to a more expensive model.

Miserable day, here, rain, drizzle, dark, dreary, actually, all quite horrible to put it, mildly.

Yes, the camera and lenses are weather-sealed -- well, at least the 90mm macro and the 135mm are weather-sealed; I'm not sure about the 50mm now that I think about it...... It is not a "G" lens. In the Sony world the "G" and "GM" ("Golden Master") lenses are the higher quality ones (i.e., $$$$$). The A7R IV camera, which is now Sony's flagship full-frame one, is apparently better weather-sealed than its predecessors. The Sony A9 II which has just been released is also weather-sealed better than its predecessor, as it is expected that it in particular will be used for shooting sports and wildlife, will be used extensively outdoors. In any event I wouldn't go out shooting if it were drizzly or raining, and I've been fortunate through the years not to be caught in an unexpected rain while out with the camera either!

I’m also mostly a fair weather shooter. But have been out in the pouring rain without issues. I do have a rain cover but stopped using it as it was too fiddly to use the buttons etc.

One reason I am concerned about being caught out in the rain is not only would I have expensive electronic gear in my hands, I also have it on my head (my two hearing aids). They are most definitely NOT weather-sealed!

I don't mind going out shooting on a cloudy or partly-cloudy day, as often one gets nice results without harsh shadows and all that, but if there is rain in the forecast, forget it, I'm staying at home, keeping myself, my hearing aids and my camera and lens(es) safe and dry!

The way in which you have written this post is actually very funny.

But, I sympathise; actually, I sympathise completely.

I wear glasses, which makes any sort of photography (or almost any other activity) in the rain pretty much impossible.

When I used to cycle to school, I remember wondering why nobody had ever invented some sort of windscreen wiper for spectacles; my choice was either cycle in the rain (when, for obvious reasons, I couldn't see a thing), or remove my glasses, and - again, the world was blurry and unknowable, - and I couldn't see a thing - and not simply on account of the incessant downpour.

Can’t you use the viewfinder on the camera without glasses? Mine you can adjust for your vision impairment.

I’d never thought about that. You’d have thought they would be waterproof given you need them 24/7.

You can buy adaptors if the standard diop isn’t strong enough.

Um.

Over twenty years ago, when I first decided to order prescription sun-glasses, my optician looked into ordering Lomb & Bausch sunglasses for me, for their advertising to opticians/ophthalmologists made clear that they catered for imperfect eyes, and could offer prescription sunglasses to those of us who labour under less than perfect vision.

Anyway, while my right eye - which requires corrective lenses - could indeed be gifted with one of their lenses, the specific lens requirements of my left eye were far beyond what Lomb & Bausch claimed that they could cater to.

Which do you use for photography? Left or right? Right for me.

Thinking I better get a second house key made for eldest sis en route home tonight.

She's coming over tomorrow or Wednesday with Thanksgiving spread, and may have lost the house key mom gave her last year.

Also thinking good things for mom.

Hope everyone is well here.

When’s your mums surgery scheduled for? Hope it goes well.

Oh, gosh, right.

Right.

My left - well, suffice to say that if someone with normal vision even looks though the left lens of my spectacles, they seem to get an immediate headache.

Best of luck to you, and your mom.

And I am sure that you are looking forward to your sister coming over with (equipped with, or having cooked herself) the Thanksgiving spread - hoping all goes well with Thanksgiving and that you all enjoy the spread.

What is on the menu?
