On the other hand, for cyclists they mean impending death.
Bingo!
Driving along the French motorways is, er...an interesting experience. :D
I always find France is the easiest country on the continent to drive in. The French have savoir-faire on the roads. It's the Spaniards and Italians that are mental.
I don't think there's a person on the planet that couldn't identify the US on a map.
If there is, I've got a feeling they'd be a US citizen :D

(You can now fly with BA from the UK to most cities for around $60.00)

You might be able to fly there for $60 if you get in quick on a World Fare sale but you ain't coming back at that price. Taxes alone even just up and back to Scotland are now about £50!

What's wrong with bendy buses?

Aside from them bursting into flame occasionally, blocking junctions, using up oodles of space at bus-stops so other buses can't get in and meaning that you can no longer jump on and off when they're stuck in an interminable traffic jam, they're great.

unfortunately i did not travel much until a few years ago (issues with claustrophobia made me very tense about cabrides, planes, etc. ahhh the wonders of Xanax!) but recently i did San Francisco a couple of times and i am going to Seattle/Vancouver/Portland in June. Also been to montreal a number of times as well as up and down the eastern seabord of the USA.

Other than that i am looking at trying to get to the Netherlands ASAP (dutch design) and London (every other kind of design) soon after that. my girlfriend will most likely be getting a travel fellowship that will put her in India, Russia, and South Korea for a year so i will hopefully be going into Seoul for a visit; no real desire to see India or Russia.

there is no such thing as a great designer who is insulated from the world and stays in their comfort bubble; therefore anyone in a creative profession owes it to themselves and their craft to travel.

You're underestimating a tad. I have just booked a flight to Newcastle from London (return). On a £99 fare £57 was taxes.

Never cycle in london unless you want to see Elvis, Jesus and Nixon :D

"When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life"

London is extremely expensive to visit but its a good place to start if you're cruising around Europe, which I think every American should do at some point in their lives. It explains how their country came to be.

Don't come to London. Rents high enough without more people putting pressure on prices :p

Bingo, I've graduate last year and lived in London for 3 years. Some people are paying like £6-800 a month for rent. It's really expensive but if you do visit try student style like Youth Hostels. London is a nice place and I always visit it for Waterstones or other shopping but I don't live there unless I'm loaded and can afford to live in Zone 2 or 1. Other than that outside its useless because of the crime and mugging, stabbing, shooting.

6:30am: wake up
8am Take public transport (crowded)
9am - 5pm work (if lawyer till 9pm)
5:30pm Take public transport (crowded)
6pm arrive home
7pm- eat dinner, watch TV (eastenders, etc), play PS2, XBox 360, Wii, NDS, PSP, listen to iTunes, etc. surf macrumors
11pm sleep

Next day same as above. Oh occasionally get mugged :D

Notably written before the introduction of bendy-busses and £4 Zone 1 Tube fares

I used to believe in the quote that if your tired of london your tired of life, but now its more HC Andersen: At rejse er at leve (to travel is to live)

Why?

Driving along the French motorways is, er...an interesting experience. :D

I think I was going to die, because it was raining as hell while I was driving and I could not even see the car in front. Hell experience, so you have to be careful.

It's certainly one of the easiest to get busted for speeding in.

Bingo!

Spaniards and Italians are indeed mental when they drive.

I'm from Copenhagen, I've studied in the UK and Denmark. I've been to Norway, Germany, France, UK, Italy and Vatican, Spain, Portugal, India, Pakistan, and Bahrain. Still need to see, Sweden, USA, Far east, Greece, Australia and many more.

India is a must see, especially the hole in the ground :D

And if you're female, you get the added bonus of occasional molestation on the tube.

Anyway, although expensive, it's not that expensive living in inner-London (zone 1-3). Certainly no need to pay £800/month. I'm paying just over £300/month and I'm in a pretty nice place. I'm even paying less than some of my friends living in Manchester.

You're from Copenhagen and you've never been to Sweden??!? It's like five minutes away

In memory of Martin Waldseemüller and in recognition of Amerigo Vespucci, you would be most welcome to visit "America". It's larger than most think. ;)

In recognition of Richard Ameryk, transatlantic trader, late of Bristol, England, I think. No land was ever named after an explorer's first name.

I read somewhere the word came from the Mayan name for their lands. Can't remember where now though.

EDIT : Although typing america name mayan into Google comes up with this, which at least mentions it as an option.

But if America is the march of God's kingdom on Earth, then surely God himself named America?

You lot and your liberal conspiracies

Ahhhhhh a fellow New Yorker!!! I too have an obsession with California. My friend went there for New Years and now she's moving out there this Thursday!

Back to Canada for a second... I can never grasp why many Americans hate on Canada. If you want snowboarding Canada is your place my friend. I still want to hit up Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver etc (all hockey towns too if you didn't notice).

I don't think Americans hate on Canada. We make fun of them a lot, but I haven't really seen anyone "hate" Canada.

Good people. I've been to Toronto and loved it.

I've also been to Italy and England, and I must say, I loved them both! I had an absolute blast in London and met nothing but extremely nice people (and it was nice to not have anti-Americans everywhere). :)

Next stop I think, for me, is Ireland and and the Czek Republic. That would finish my "heritage" tour. :) I also would really like to go to Scandinavia, Norway, and New Zealand. I'll see where I go this year.

From San Diego and have done a fare amount of travel within the states (about 25 states) and if you are originally from the east coast then the west has a lot of cool natural parks. The grand circle with Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, and the Grand Canyon are all pretty amazing. Just staying in California with the redwoods and the central coast with San Simeon and Big Sur is pretty cool.

Though there is something about getting outside the US. With you being in Northridge area something you can do on a long weekend is go down to Ensenada, Mexico which is about two hours south of the border. Though I believe that after February US citizens need their passports to go down to Mexico even for the day.

Other than that I've been to Europe twice. Once for a whirlwind tour with my high school spanish class (Spain, France, Italy, Monaco, Vatican City) and the other for a study abroad program in Oxford. If you can I would say study abroad it was one the best experiences of my life.

Here is a picture from right outside where I stayed in Oxford.

You're right. I shouldn't have used the word "hate" It was 3:20am when I typed that bad boy.

I really want to check out Europe (pretty much all of it lol), Russia (I don't know what it is about that country, I just want to go there) and Egypt (for the pyramids)

Wow

Wow I never expected all these responses. That sounds awesome... I definitely want to go to Europe one day. Maybe one day I'll travel around Europe... Maybe my film career will be up and going first so I can come shoot there!

Australia I've always wanted to visit there... See those big red mountain things.

As for visiting the places near me. I'd love too so bad. I'd die to go see places around me but really I have no money. I have about 500 for spring break and I can't find a damn thing to do for that price range... oh well.

Please keep telling me what it's like. And if you have some pictures pass them on.

In my school there are a lot of people from foreign countries... Makes me want to visit a lot of their countries. My friend is from Finland. It sounds like a cool place to live in, though she doesn't believe in the A/C... very odd thing...
