What's the best jailbreak option for iPhone 2G?

Yes jailbreakme.com will work.

Only if you activate the iPhone officially.
Jailbreakme will not hactivate.
Pwnage and redsnow will hactivate, jb and unlock.

I'd suggest trying whited00rs custom firmware for iPhone 2g's. He's still working on it, it's small updates performance wise for the 2g.
