... Sony's support is terrible, 6 months after I purchased my PCG-TR3A I couldn't find an OEM battery anywhere... any Sony store I went to said I had an "old model" they couldn't support and I'd have to go 3rd party for a non-OEM battery.

Sony also would NOT tell me what other models of 1.8 inch HDD's would fit in my enclosure as I wanted to upgrade the 40 GB HDD it came with to at least a 100 GB internal drive.

Sony suggested I just buy a new laptop from them as I "clearly" needed to upgrade my laptop (after only 6 months of ownership).

The Sony laptop is still running strong though after ~5+ years of ownership so at least its been more reliable than their support.

I have used several Thinkpads built by IBM for about 15 years. They are excellent and have no compatibility issue with projectors. Don't know the quality of the Thinkpads built by Lenovo. Laptops built by HP seem to be good also. I heard several negative experiences from Japanese people using the Sony Vaio. I would stay away from the Vaio if you intend to use your laptop for presentation. There are compatibility issues due to softwares that Sony added to the system.

...IBM has been using Lenovo to build their laptops for many years now...they just "rebranded" the line due to corporate re-structuring...

I have to respectfully disagree...I deploy both Latitudes and Precisions at work and prefer the L...better build quality...the XPS line seem quite nice but I have no hands-on experience there...

Cheers.

The last-gen Latitudes did feel better put together than the Precisions. Not now though.

same

all of the pc laptops are about the same. I will take 2-12 hours to get rid of all the crap they put on it.

I don't like any of them. I did some research and bought an HP last time I needed a new laptop. I hated it. Used it for 3 weeks and bought a refurb air. The HP sits, unused in the garage, maybe someday when I have time I'll run Linux on it and let it serve some chore, for now it's worthless, to me. Just get a Mac :)

I sell computers everyday, so i can tell you from experience that since dell went retail, they blow. the best computer brand, next to apple of course is asus, as they are the only company that makes their own parts, and after them i would say it would be tie between hp and toshiba

I absolutely love my Sony Vaio FW!

I don't know about Asus being a quality computer brand, everyone I have seen has been in shambles. If you want a good, quality built computer, lenovo is the way to go. They make the best non-apple computer hands down. Yes they are ugly, but the quality is far superior to anyone else. Maybe Dell has some nice high end stuff, not really sure though.
