the optimus keyboard looks remarkable.

granted, i don't know if i mean that in a good or bad way, but it's a hell of an idea. i do think that if it changes functions during every program that switches, it could get more than a bit annoying, but it would be quite cool.

is there an MSRP on it?

the mini 3 is suppose to be out by the Aug 15th so if you find reviews; i don't think the keyboard is vaporware there essentially both the same thing.

Three keys do not a keyboard make. The full version if it ever comes out is surely unlikely to be under a thousand smackeroonies (and we ain't talking roubles).

For all those that wanted a laptop style keyboard;
theres a Sony VAIO keyboard that has flat laptop keys and a trackpad below the keyboard

I think its a great idea, as the biggest change for me going from years having a powerbook as my desktop to an iMac was having to move my hands so far to move the cursor .

I'd be interested to see if anyones had any run-ins with this keyboard

I thought that was classified as vaporware... Is it ever coming out in the US?

It says "Release date July 14th, 2005" and that it'll be available "End of 2006" but is that even likely.

Sounds like compatibility and/or distribution issues.

but simply the fact that someone is trying to make this is just fantastic. if i had the cash to throw around, i would definitely invest in one. its genious!

Not sure how to respond to that.

Not sure if this would work with a Mac. For a desktop machine, I'd really like to have an identical keyboard/trackpad as my powerbook. I don't suppose anyone has seen anything like that (aside from the sony posted above...)

It is not flat or small, but my favorite is the old Apple Extended Keyboard, model M0115. Awesome ADB keyboard. I still use mine.

::raises hand::

me too. I've got 3 Extended Keyboard II's and one Extended Keyboard (the difference being the powerkey looks like a regular key on the original EK while being a bigger key flush with the keyboard surface on the II). We called them "Saratogas". Best keyboards ever made.

Use a Keyspan USB-ADB adapter to utilize one with my PB G4 (first non-ADB Mac). Works flawlessly.

im gonna be returning my kensington. i really like the way the keys feel. but that double control key is enough to bug the crap out of me. ( has anyone looked at the box to notice that it doesnt have that? what the heck? )

anyways. im just gonna stick with my apple pro keyboard. im a fan of full size keyboards ( except i love the powerbook g4 keyboard ) and ill just live wiht the apple, maybe ill try that macally icekey later ok. but for now. im content.

I've heard good things about this.

I tried it out in a store.. almost silent, feels like my PowerBook keyboard. :D
I got one of those for my mini, and whilst it felt nice at first, I found it very easy to get ahead of it and it would lose keystrokes! Also got the mouse at the same time and found it wouldn't work very well on anything except a mouse mat (i.e. table top, etc).
Couldn't recommend it to be honest.

The keysonic posted a few posts back looks to be the exact same thing as the Macally IceKey (http://macally.com/spec/usb/input_device/icekey.html) only the icekey is white and doesn't have fancy lights :)

It's a great keyboard btw, I'm typing on it right now

Man, this OEM thing is hilarious isn't it. I have noticed that the backlight actually makes a whine when I have the hard disk turned off and the MBP is quietly working, so everything is not fully sweetness. Still loving the keyboard feel though. Does the Macally keyboard have the Apple and Alt keys in the correct order?

I am also curious though why you can't stick with the logitech you had. I have a Logitech G15 that I love and it works great with the Mac. No problems at all. Just retrain yourself on the Windows key, etc. In fact, I use Synergy to control both my MBP and my desktop with one keyboard and mouse. It is free software that really does an excellent job.

WOW! This thread is so old.

I suggest that for those of you that like "tactile feed back" KB's, consider the "Customizer Keyboard" from "pckeyboard.com".

This is an original type IBM "Buckling Spring" keyboard. Apple tried to copy it with the "Battleship Cupertino", replete with its "alps" switches. But alas, Alps, is not "Buckling Spring". It is good, but not like what IBM developed with the "Buckling Spring".

A couple of companies now offer "so-called" tactile-feedback keyboards. Most notably, Matias. But they actually turn out to be junk! Even Matias has discontinued their original KB, but has now said no more will be produced. The White one is gone. I guess they are just waiting for the last bunch of suckers to buy the remaining black ones. They say a new version will be around in maybe 2010. HELLO!!!

If any of you Mac user's just want a KB of "days gone by", meaning a KB that will last a thousand years, and feel like you're typing on an IBM Selectric typewriter, look no farther.

Yes, there are no specific "Apple" keys, but then with
Keyboard Maestro", so what. Hehe...

But... If you like the short throw keys like on a PowerBook, or a MacBook, you won't like this "pup", or should I say, "old timer". Frankly, I just love the old "long throw" KB's with a very positive tactile feedback, and "some" audible feedback, but nothing as loud as the Matias offerings, but yet, with a "better" feel.

But believe me, as good as the old Apple "Battleship Cupertino" was, it was still an "Alps" keyboard, and as good as it was, it couldn't hold up to IBM's Model M. But now, you can actually get a Model M for you Mac.

Yay hooo, for buckling spring! Try it, you may just like it, and not realize what you have been missing.

Your preferences may vary.

Just my 2¢

Follow up, maybe repetitive...

Any "Macsters" that like "buckling spring" tried one of these yet? A perfect model of the IBM Model "M" KB, replete with buckling spring spring technology.

Whoo Hoo... AWESOME!!!

I just wish they had some built-in USB ports. Oh well... Maybe if enough of us get on them, they will.

So why does this keyboard feel like an old IBM Selectric, or an old IBM terminal keyboard? Well my friends, that's because it is. Hehe...

Is this KB clicky? Yes, but not nearly as objectionable as the Matias offering. It just sounds like what you hear in the old Star Trek movies, but not quite as loud.

This "pup" is built like a Sherman Tank.

This KB is not exactly pretty, and it doesn't follow Steve's thinking of modern day "Yuppie" design. But boy-oh-boy, it is sweet.
