I am using iconic notes right now, its pretty cool. Almost like the ipod/iphone's GUI indeed. Here are some screen shots I took.

To delete a note, touch edit, and the icons wiggle just like the icons on the main screen!
you can create templates to use on a regular basis, like a bulleted to do list. You can change text and back ground color too!
text entry made easy with a newly added landscape keyboard!
Features includes, emailing and importing notes from an online source.
and my personal favorite, you can create your own photo icons, or chose from the available ones!

I got the app while it was available for free reviewing. I now believe it is $3.99. They do listen to your feedback and reviews and subsequently update them. These guys seem committed to actually creating a unique, slick app worth having on the ipod touch/iphone.

    Agreed.

Iconic Notes looks promising, it definitly needs polish but I can't give up Evernote.

For text, I mostly use Momo, for photos and voice, Evernote.

i use iconic note too (i also got it for free during the promotion period). one suggestion i can think of is to have the option of password protecting certain notes. it seems logical since it allows user to add new folders.

i think Evernote is good if you want to sync notes between iphone and desktop. also it allows voice and image notes. no major short-coming, except there's a upload limitation on free account. also, load up time is slightly slower than iconic note, and it keep asking for permission to use your current location, so it's kinda annoying (anyone knows how to turn that off?)

If you like to put images in your notes, you should take a look at NoteMaster (shameless plug: I'm the developer). It lets you add images and headers right in the note with the text (as opposed to "attaching" the image in a separate area). Also categories (can be password locked) and full text search.

We're currently working on landscape editing and syncing for a future update...stay tuned...we're not going to rest until NoteMaster is the most full-featured notes app.

I have to say that I have tried at least 6 different ones and keep going back to Evernote. It is now on my system for good.

I'm glad you are determined to make an excellent app. I'll have to try your app out. Any promotions codes you would like to give me? :D:D:D

Otherwise, without having actually used it, searching for text within photos would be fantastic. Or, at least being able to label photos with metadata that is searchable would be an OK alternative.

The metadata idea is interesting. Can you give me a real-world example of how you would use this? I'm trying to understand the case where you would want the metadata searchable, but not visible in the actual note itself. Because normally, I would think one would just type the metadata text in the note itself under/above the image.

I was thinking off adding the metadata (or tag) to the image itself (like the "notes" we can add to the info of an image file), but not actually having the words written below the image.

For example, if I make a note that has a picture of a dog named Simon playing with a boy named Sam but make the label underneath say "Our son Sam having a great time," I would never be able to do a search for "family dog named Simon" or just plain "Simon" and come up with that image. However, if I tagged the image with searchable key words (the metadata) like "dog" or "Simon," I would then be able to search for this image easily by searching for "dog" (even though the words are not explicitly written under the image itself). The trick is that when the image is added, the person adding the image would have to tag the image the best way they could so they could search for it easily at a later time.

And, of course, the ability to search for words appear within an image would also be super cool.

    Evernote.

It syncs with my Mac at home, so I always have my notes, wherever I go. I recommend this app 100%.

The only thing that I don't like about Evernote is that I need wifi to get to it. And with my job, I am in the air (meaning I have to turn the phone to plane mode) atleast 10 hours where at times I need to get to my notes. And I am in the air atleast 4 times a week.

The othershortcoming of Evernote is that it takes time and battery life to load to Evernote service and then to download that back onto the iPhone.

If you're only doing text it's not a major hit to the battery...

And Evernote is the best. Syncing online and then to my computer is the best.

Save it as a "Favorite" and it's viewable offline. When you view a note, simply tap the star in the upper left corner.

    BTW, another +1 for Evernote.

If you mark a note as a favorite on the iPhone client you do not need to be online to access it.

Yes, but if you create the note on your Mac you will need wifi on on your touch so Evernote can update. Once you are there you can mark a note as a favorite by tapping on the star icon next to the note name. After doing this once you disconnect from wifi you'll be able to see the note.

i like the recent update from iconic notes

they've added the secured folder feature, which is exactly what i want. the new feature and the landscape mode make iconic notes better than most of the note taking app, IMHO.
