Hey,

So I started to use the as7 for sleep tracking, but get wildly different results from different apps-

If I look at apple health, it says that I got only 30 mins of deep sleep for example, whereas Pillow says I got 1,5 hours but gives me a sleep score of only 75%- whereas sleepcycle says I got a 100% score and doesn’t specify the deep sleep at all.

How do these different results occur and which one am I supposed to trust? How do you guys go about it?

Best sleep tracker is a wife, husband, partner and so on.
If you awake with a pillow over your face, sore ribs in the morning it may be time to visit a doctor.

I have used AutoSleep for a few years (since aw6) before that I had a Fitbit and it was comparable Now with ios16 and how it tracks sleep they match somewhat closely but AutoSleep doesn’t track REM so it all goes under deep. You can see both in app to compare. I like that it has a lights out option to track how long it takes to fall asleep. I would recommend trying it yourself.

I decided to start trying sleep tracking with my Series 8 and was coming here with the same question--I think I'm going to try the built in functionality first, but I have another hurdle to clear first, which is that I find it insanely annoying to sleep with my watch or wedding band on. The last two nights I've given up after an hour and stuck it on the charger. I think it's the stock sport band that's annoying me the most, as I'm used to my old ratty Nike band with the holes in it.

Yes Autosleep seems to be the consensus best one and I agree. I’m also very happy how the Health app recently updated wit with similar good data to Autosleep and Fitbit’s app.

I tried Pillow and Sleep+ I think it was called, they were both okay. I used to use one called Sleep Cycle also. Basically though you can’t go wrong with Autosleep in my opinion and then check the Health built-in one for REM measurement if desired. Autosleep has a view that takes the Health data and graphs it too I think.

+1 for AutoSleep. One off payment, no monthly subscription. Hate subscription app.

Is the data that the health app shows similar to the one in Auto sleep? Cause I’d be happy with the health app, just am confused that pillow and sleepcycle show so vastly different results!

AutoSleep. No doubt about it.

Just try to take it serious the first days with the daily adjustment.

And that's all.

Great app, no subscription... A true winner.

No, in my experience they are significantly different.
I have been using both for the last couple of week, the dilemma is that you really have no way of knowing which is more accurate. Generally, you have a fair idea as to when you went to sleep, certainly when you woke next morning. Maybe times you visited the bathroom. But ‘deep’, ‘core’ etc. ?

In Autosleep you can choose to display ‘sleep analysis’ (Autosleep data) or ‘sleep stages’ (iwatch data).
Then you will see the differences.

I tried built-in Health app sleep tracking last night and was finally able to do it without getting annoyed that I had a watch on. I was fascinated by the data I saw in the morning. Very cool feature and I'm glad I have a new model with a fresh battery to try it out on.

Went to bed with the watch on. Ended up taking it off around 230am and putting on the charger. Even took it out of sleep mode and everything. Woke up this morning, and it still had sleep tracking info for the times it was on the charger, sleep mode off. Even had periods where I was supposedly awake. Maybe it’s just a glitch in my watch, but to me it seems not accurate after last night

Mine seemed accurate so far--I showed the graph to my wife in the morning and there were little spikes where I was supposedly awake, and I think two of them matched exactly with her trips to the bathroom. So I guess she wakes me up when she wakes up at night, but I never remember it.

I was convinced it was pretty accurate, and may be as long as you keep it on. But last night was just weird. Even the heart rate data isn’t there. But still shows data saying I was in and out of different stages and waking up

I have an Oura ring which seems, at least to me, to be far more accurate than my Apple Watch Ultra. The Ultra doesn't appear to record Deep Sleep accurately for me. Much of my Deep Sleep is recorded as REM. And, the Ultra seems to overestimate how long I was asleep.

The Oura and a prior Whoop seem pretty in sync with my actual sleep stages and sleep times, but it's hard to really know in the end. I just know that the Ultra says I'm only getting 10-20 mins of Deep Sleep a night which doesn't seem possible and the Oura and Whoop say around an hour of Deep.

Another +1 for AutoSleep here. Been using it since the Apple Watch 3 days. It gives a ton of information but it is not perfect - does take a little bit of customization because we’re all a little different (you can tell it if you felt like you got more sleep or less and eventually it learns your type and you never have to change it again).

It’s funny, my AW health data and AutoSleep data (which is based off of Apple health data) - I can tell if I’m sick or not based on what I see.

FYI, I do not install AutoSleep on the watch. I only run it on my phone based off of watch data in Apple Health. Just how I’ve always done it. Lol.

I tried AutoSleep for one night and just built in Sleep for one night. I got consistent results from both, but AutoSleep gives some really interesting metrics that Health doesn't have, so I'm going to keep it for now.
