Yeah........there’s a lot i could say about it but it would cause a huge argument.

I have contracted for BP in the past and hated working for them because they are ultra strict with health and safety in the UK and the rest of the World as outside the USA the laws surrounding O&G are acute.

We had a huge disaster in the north sea in 1988 and our laws changed after that. The rest of the World copied our laws, except the USA unfortunately and we see the outcome now

The way BP have handled the PR exercise after it is disgusting and that fool Tony Hayward should be out a job and unemployable!!!

I agree with what you're saying here. Here's to hoping that my country shapes up and stops being such a bunch of wankers (as you might put it!)

The sad thing is...........the effects will still be present when you, myself and every other member of this board are old farts knocking on heavens door. :(

BP have sorted their **** out (as we say) and it’s good to see they have got a cap ready to plug the leak 100% a bit ahead of schedule. I know that is no consolation to the poor buggers that live there though as at the end of the day it should not have happened.

This is why I hope we figure out some kind of green energy solution, and SOON!

They’ve got it, i am 99% certain of that, but they will never realse it until they know how to tax it, make money out it etc etc etc.

There are areas of Halliburton, BP, Shell head offices that have security vetting as tough as black op’s military offices.

I ask myself...............why?

No reason that's good for the world, I'm sure.

Reportback:

1. I cloned by nearly full laptop 60GB drive onto my new 750GB drive (in a MacAlly external FW/USB2.0 enclosure) using SuperDuper. It took about 2 hours. I just walked away from the laptop and let it run. Disappointingly, it appears that the new drive actually only has about 700 GB free space. I'm extra glad I sprung for the 750GB model instead of the 640GB model now.

2. I swapped the 60GB out and installed the 750GB. It fit like a glove.

3. Booted up - and there was all my data, as if nothing had changed! Seems to work like a charm.

4. I installed the original 60GB drive in the enclosure. I'm going to hold onto it in its current state for 30 days, to see if this new drive dies on me, and then I'll start using it as a DJ gig drive - that way I don't have to put any of my main drives in the line of fire.

Thanks for the help guys!

Your pictures are cracking me up :D

Apparently iPhoto crashes repeatedly now on the new HD. This seems to be a common problem when you replace an HD on an OS X system.

I'm on 10.4.11, with iPhoto 6.0.6. I'm trying to reinstall all the apps as we speak. Any one have any advice here?

(Needless to say, I'm back to this: )

Hey,

Was that, in fact, the drive you used? the Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD7500BPVT 750GB 5400?

I ask because I just threw that very drive model into my MacBook (White) from late 2007, version 3,1 and I boot from the Install CD. But my new hard drive isn't recognized, that is, i can't select it to install the OS to.

Unless I have a dead drive (which I kinda doubt), how was it that you were able to get the OS down to it? Is it that a direct install can't be done, but a clone via SuperDuper can?

Thanks!

That is indeed the drive I am using. I cloned my old drive using SuperDuper, but then installed Snow Leopard. It took the OS installer a long time to recognize the drive, but it did eventually recognize it.
