Am I missing something? Just activate the one that comes in the phone no? What’s the point of swapping to the old one if activating the new phone as is will just deactivate the old one.

Activating the phone with old sim *may* let you avoid the fake upgrade fee.

I’m confused about this too. I have t-mobile. I preordered a t-mobile phone and paid for it outright. If I activate the new SIM card it comes with, will I get stuck with an upgrade fee?

I got hosed one launch day with activation servers getting overwhelmed and couldn't make phone calls for two days. I always swap SIM cards to avoid activation server issues.

So this is simply to skip the activation servers? There's no impact on your carrier account or anything?
