Well maybe Vista was the culprit, that's one P.O.S. OS. Many Wintel users like me went from XP to W7 straight.

Don't talk to me about Vista! It's banned in my house. My dad absolutely hates it. His solution to fixing Vista problems is to take the heaviest sledgehammer you can get to the computer or even a steamroller! :p
 
I recently updated to ML so thought I'd check. Closed lid, reopened and stared at a black screen until I finally clicked the trackpad. :(

Is there something wrong or am I missing some setting? Ugh. The computer can't have gone into deep sleep, I checked under System Preferences and screen is set for 15 min and computer 1h when plugged in.
 
There is no such thing as a "deep sleep", they just sleep. You probably closed the lid and then re-opened it while the computer was still going to sleep, confusing it. If you wait at least 30 seconds between closing the lid and opening it it should come back to life more quickly.
