What's the difference between streaming and downloading? Is it illegal?

Sorry for such a dumb question.

I thought that streaming a movie is not the same as "downloading" a movie.

In other words, is watching a movie stream on MegaVideo illegal?

I really enjoyed "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and some other *cough* films... but did not download, only streamed it.

I thought this was okay? Sorry again if this is stupid time.

Whether or not it's illegal depends on the content and the source. It's not illegal to stream an episode of The Office from Hulu or Netflix, but it is illegal to download it from a torrent.

Is it illegal to stream not download and watch a film on this live stream from Megavideo?

It's illegal if you know that the source is illegal/does not have rights to distribute etc etc.
