I found out my friend got a MBP 13 Base model (the one before thunderbolt). it has 4gb ram, 2.4 core 2, and etc. my MacBook air ultimate 13 inch has 4 gb ram, 2.13 ghz core 2, now I dont even think there is much of a difference

Your MacBook air should perform faster on most things unless he has a SSD as well. The only time his will really be quicker is when doing CPU intensive stuff.

Bootup, out of sleep you will have the quicker machine. Running multiple apps, video editing, etc. he will have the quicker machine.

Air has bigger screen resolution.
