They also make for a great Linux box. The X4*s/X6*s series is also very compact - smaller than the 12" PB.
Yeah! I ran Linux on mine for a long while. I have Windows 10 on it now, but as soon as I can get a computer that can run Windows 10 better, I'll put Linux back on there
 
Another two tweaks not covered by these that noticeably speed up the UI:

1. Disable drop shadows using e. g. ShadowKiller.

Thanks for reminding me! I should've mentioned it myself - that's one of the first tweaks that I performed with Tiger on my G3. :)

2. Use 32768 colours rather than millions.

Another good one. When this chipset was unveiled, I was quite excited at the colour palette till someone pointed out that the average person probably wouldn't even see the full scale of millions of colours and that it was more of a marketing ploy that sounds impressive when quoted. (I bet this will start a debate!)
