My 4 year old PowerBook G4 12" (1 Ghz, 768 RAM, 120 GB HD, Airport, Superdrive) is still alive and kicking but since installing Leopard has become a bit sluggish. I love leopard but am wondering if I would get a better performance by downgrading? I have Tiger and Panther discs available from my PowerBook's past. Which would be best for me, do they still receive updates? I mostly run iWork '08 and iLife '08 apps, Firefox, MSN Messenger and watch a lot of Quicktime and internet streams. Incidentally my graphics is only GeForce FX Go5200 32MB, could this be the route cause of my slow down and therefore not because of leopard but the '08 iWork/Life apps requiring more?

I know I need a new MBP but I'm saving/awaiting a change in form factor!

    similar

I have a 1.5 ghz 12" powerbook, only slightly newer than yours. For my money, Tiger would be the best bet. While I like Leopard's features too much to downgrade, I accept that Tiger was more responsive.

I'm also saving up for a new black Macbook...bonus time is coming near!

    In due time.

Quite possibly. I can't justify having two laptops. Macrumors will be the first place I post it.
