Sorry chaps, originally our fault I think...
All Hallows eve... Night when the dead walk the earth before the saints day. Old English/Scottish/Irish(?) tradition. Think it's actually an 'old english' word.
When I was growing up it was just some party games - apple bobbing and cutting your hands trying to carve a Swede (the vegtable not a person) - as pumpkins were only available on Scooby Doo when I was a kid.
The main thing though for us is after Halloween it's only five days 'till the main event...
Bonfire/Fireworks night... Bonfires, fireworks, hot dogs etc etc (Best not to go there on that one's origins though)
