I just bought it last night by emailing apple support at apple_sales_support@apple.com and asked them to add applecare+ to my order, include the order number as well. They added it to my order today and told me once the payment went through, my iPhone would be protected under the warranty.

Wrong. This was what people would do with old ass nickle cadium batteries.

Lithium ion batteries do not function like that.

You have 30 days after purchase, provided that you bring it in so that they can verify that it isn't broken before they start coverage.

I'm in Hawaii and LTE won't be available around the end of this year
