I've been looking but can't find any information about the date watch os3 will be available. Is it still just a guess at this point?

In relation to the final release, if you've installed the watch OS 3 beta, can you do an in-place install of the final release like you can with an iPhone?

That's because there was a last minute bug that delayed its release.
Yes, just pointing out that Apple does't have to release wOS3/:apple:Watch 2 at the same time as the iPhone 7/iOS10. Of course iOS10 MUST come before wOS3, but wOS3 can come after iOS10.

I'm guessing for Wednesday "immediate download" for

• watchOS 3
• iOS 10

I'm sure "immediate download"s have occured in the last nine years.

maybe worth taking chargers into work on Wednesday.

To the best of my recollection (which may be incorrect:eek:) this has not been the case. I always recall Apple not releasing the next iOS until a couple of days before the new product launch.

This isn't correct. I think you might be confusing it with the beta version of some OS (e.g., iOS 9 beta was available for immediate download after WWDC).

We just get the gold master releases on the announcement day, as others have noted the full release is normally 2-3 days before the updated hardware is launched.

Fair play I was wrong - hope they make an exception on Weds though!
The new OSs are in part to help drive desire and demand fro the new hardware. Apple doesn't want people installing the new OS's, having time to test and then finding that they are actually satisfied with their 'old' iDevices.

Except we do get the new OS three days or so before the new hardware streets. It's rarely the case that the new OS is substantially faster/improved to justify not getting the new hardware. wOS 3 might be a rare exception for many current AW owners.

Xcode beta has been at beta 6 since August 15. Usually, it is updated about every 2 weeks. I anticipate that Xcode GM will be released tomorrow and iOS 10 will be out in about a week, the day the new iPhones arrive. Just a guess.

I remember when the iPad was new. We coders, who did this, had iPad apps out a day or two ahead of the release. Nothing like this is happening with iOS 10 or WatchOS3.
