I've had it for about 3 weeks now, came from a 2014 MB Air 13 that was stolen in December, upgraded to 2014 rMBP 13, and now with the base 1.1 256 - very happy. Is it slower than the MBP - dohh... does it matter - never found myself going, hmm... this is slow, wish it would be faster... granted, I rarely if ever edit videos or use hand break. Photoshop CS5 has no issues. multiple Word 2011 windows - no problem. My MBP has been sitting on the shelf since I got this - waiting for a happy home.

I have included a screenshot of the desktop connected to a 34" LG at 3440x1440...

Love it

Gave my daughter my MBA but made the mistake of showing her my new MBr...she wants to swap...no way!

I just got mine today from best buy. I love it. The only negative I have has nothing to with . When I opened the package there was another brown box that had the white MacBook box in it. When I pulled out the white box, I noticed it didn't have the plastic air tight wrap that usually  products come with. I thought that was odd but didn't think to much about it until I saw the laptop. Everything was out of place, the laptop had obvious smudges on it. I opened it, the wrist rest & also the screen had smudges all over it. not happy at all, I though at first they gave me a refurbished one. I called best buy cs & asked them if they had sent me used/refurbished machine & she said no, was a new laptop. Then I noticed that the second brown box had brown tape on top of the original brown tape seal. Whoever did this did a good job trying to repackage up the brown box. If it wasn't for all the smudges I probably wouldn't have noticed. Best buy rep told me she will have someone contact me in about 72hrs & see how they want to handle this. Right now with BB they are on backorder with at least a 2 ½ month wait. She notated my acct & said they might be able to a swap then once it's no longer on back order even if it's outside the 30day return window.

What would you guys do? It works fine, when I turned it on for the first time it prompted me through the initial set up. I'm thinking someone just opened it to check it out & play with it since it's a brand new product. Should I keep it & maybe try to fight for a partial credit for selling me an open box item or should I swap it out once they're no longer on backorder?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Do you think it's worth getting over the pro considering the fact they're the same price?

Only if portability is the primary factor for you. I went back to the rMBP. The biggest reason was not being able to get to the point where I was comfortable with the keyboard. The secondary reason was that the tradeoff between portability and screen size tilted slightly in favor of the bigger/heavier 13" rMBP for me. YMMV.

Not sure what air tight wrap you are referring to unless you mean on the power supply etc as I have never had that around the macbook itself ...not that I recall.

If it is otherwise fine I would opt for trying to get some open box credit off the price. You'll surely still have the warranty if anything was wrong with it. it does seem like lots of people were swapping even just for a different colour and that is most likely what has happened here or as you say someone opened just for a play.

I think he means the clear plastic shrink wrap around the white Macbook box, not the Macbook itself. Otherwise he could mean the plastic tear off around the Macbook. I haven't got mine yet, but all the MBA's I've ordered for clients, etc. have had both of these.

I use mine for just about everything I do. Mail, surf, photos, music. Got rid of my 15" rmbp. I also have an iMac that I use if I need a bigger screen but most times I am on the rmb. Great machine. I never notice the fact it has one port as I rarely if ever use any peripherals.

Mine definitely had both. Oh and I've had this thing for three weeks and couldn't be happier.

I might end up in the same boat as you, for the same reasons (plus being the rMB being slightly sluggish). Going to give it one more week before making a final decision).

I did the same thing. Had the rMB and rMBP 13 for almost four weeks. I returned the rMB back to BB this week. In my case, I don't travel much and the rMBP 13 was a better option. Couple of positives for me with rMBP 13: Larger screen, better battery life, faster processor, more ports, cheaper price ( i got in on the $1099 price from BB and got it lower with 10% coupon and EDU $50). The rMB was great, but I might visit it in a year or two.

I don't understand the concept of a power user. I have an rMB and have used it to do some complex bayesian modeling and it has been fine. Meanwhile, someone plays a flash game online. The latter scenario takes far more CPU power than the first. The scenario that this computer doesn't fit the bill likely means professional video editing - which likely isn't a majority of mac users.

I'd consider myself a power user because I do write code and push the CPU to the max when processing data, but whether my calculations take 2 minutes on an rMBP or 3 minutes on an rMB doesn't seem like that big of a distinction.

Yes, it should have had both the outside seal and the inside seal.

It's worth giving it a real audition. I was disappointed that it didn't work out. Even then, I almost kept it.

It's a Lenovo! Sure it's light, but man its fugly!

Off topic. Why do some apple users always have that attitude towards non-apple products? I've been using apple products for about 20 years, but I don't go around saying other brands make "fugly" products. Actually there are really good looking laptops, phones, etc made by other companies. Have you even seen the lenovo computer he was referring to?

Yes I totally agree that there are plenty of other brands making smart looking stuff, the Lenovo mentioned is just not one of them! Imo.

I don't just like Apple stuff, there's plenty of nice looking hardware out there.
The main issue with non Apple hardware is that you have to run Windows 8 - yuk!!! Windows 10 will see a big surge in sales of devices.

To be fair, every single review of this Lenovo mentions its looks negatively. If this even had the Lenovo Thinkpad look and branding it would look much better. This, though, looks exactly like what it is, appearance-wise - an NEC computer (known for not being very good looking) with a Lenovo sticker slapped on it.

Is the MacBook actually in stores yet? I went looking in London and Kingston-Upon-Thames for the couple of weeks after it was released and no stores had the MacBook to look at. I've not bothered since.

Yeah, but Dude, I have tried to play 43 FB flash games and 27 4k full feature films on Youtube, all simultaneously, and the MB stutters horribly under this perfectly reasonable usage!! This is obviously not ready for prime time for a power user like me! How could Apple even release this POS??

We were discussing the fact that it's possible to build laptops BIGGER and LIGHTER than what the MacBook is.
The MacBook is a fantastic machine, and looks nice too. But for this weight it should be 13".

You should be able to see display models now (usually the base unit in all colours) but you are unlikely to find stock in UK apple stores.

Not non-Apple products, just Lenovo. Our standard computers where I work are Dell Optiplex and Latitudes but we are being forced to try out Lenovo Yogas. We have 9 Lenovo Yogas that are being tested and out of those nine they have three different power adapters with different plugs. We have also had to get hardware warranty repairs on four of the Yogas. Let's not forget that they all had SuperFish on them too. So yea Lenovos are [insert negative adjective].
