I don't use one.
The pad doesn't seem to give any advantage over my desk. Plus, I am too lazy to lift the mouse up, it's much nicer when you got a lot of space to roll the mouse around. ;)

Precision, mon ami.

Try using a fUnc pad. After using this for 4 years, it's a pain using mice on plain wooden surfaces, or worse--on your generic Dell mousepad.

My mouse pad doesn't really afford me any benefit (well maybe it keeps my desk from getting scratched up), but other than that, its just like an old friend that I can't simply kick to the curb. And after so long it just feels weird without it.

I'm still using a mouse pad I got with my PC in 1995 :) It's a monkey with a to-do list. *shrugs* bit of discolouration through the decade and a bit but it's still perfect.

I have that same one and still use it!

Don't have a mousepad now, but I kind of want this cool one for my Mighty Mouse: :D

I don't use one, but I also have a big callus on my wrist where it rests on the desk...It looks like I have an lump growing out of my wrist, its pretty funny.

I have a Logitec MX 518 and it works well on the granite im on right now...it even works on my blanket when I'm on my bed!

When I used my family's dell, we had an optical, but it would jump and skip on anything other than the pad. Eventually, it would spaz out even on the pad. It was really annoying to be playing counter-strike and I would be aiming at someone, then suddenly I would be shooting at the wall, or the sky, or my friend...

Mousepads have their usefulness, but not for everyone and every mouse in every situation.

Mac OS X was created with the intent for it to be used with a mouse. It is almost impossible to use a Mac and not use a mouse.
and, apple's accessibility tools (i.e. voiceover) let you navigate without a mouse. a bit inconvenient in the beginning, but works ;)

I have a logitech g7 i use, 2000dpi laser mouse, beautiful thing. Teflon feet on it too, glides sooooo smoothly. might wanna look into getting those if you're finding that it feels like you're running your mouse over sandpaper :)

I use a mouse pad with my Apple Bluetooth mouse because when I had a Pc (eew) my Microsoft optical mouse scratched the fake wood print off my desk.

Yes, but you still need a mouse to turn that feature on (as far as I know).

As far as i remember there is a way to turn on the universal access from keyboard, i forget what but i thought it involved hitting a key 5 times or something like that

Edit i was wrong it was Apple+F5, heh that is where the five comes from

It's hitting Shift five times with Windows XP, (it's really annoying as the only time you do this is when gaming which of course takes you back to windows and out of the game for a bit, admittedly you don't often hit shift five times but its annoying when it happens...) This is yet another thing Apple's got right! :D
