If you've read anything that has been said in this thread already you would have found that Firewire is used in a lot of media devices to bring fast transfer. These fast speeds are very important to creative professionals.

However the Macbook is not a professional machine. Therefore, no Firewire port.

There are a lot of non-pros out there with DV camcorders which only have a firewire interface (myself included). And what's the point of bundling iMovie with a macbook that has no firewire.

Remove iLife too

Since they removed the firewire they should also remove iLife.

This kinda makes iMovie, iDvd, and Garage band, kind of useless.

Yes, I'm shocked. Aren't 99% of camcorders firewire interface?

I guess they think we'll all be downloading memory cards via usb instead?

The most important reason to include firewire is that their competition has it, and on less expensive machines. For the first time in years, I am considering getting a windows machine. OS X is def. better, but that doesn't help me if I can't do what I want without replacing everything...

It's artificially not a pro machine now though. There's no reason you couldn't edit pro video on the rest of the MacBook's specs, even the IGP. Now you really can't.

I use Firewire to transfer video from my DVR that has its Firewire ports disabled by cable provider with the help of a MiniDV camera acting as an analogue-digital converter.

I use this feature all the time. Not having Firewire, and especially FW400 just kills any intention of getting a MacBook or a MacBook Pro. I'll have to pray that my early 2007 MacBook doesn't die.

I guess there is always hope for Rev.2.
