This is a carrier barrier, not an apple one.

No it's not.

Apple can choose what their OS does.

Apple has chosen:

  • To let carriers restrict Tethering
  • To let carriers restrict FaceTime
  • To not allow downloads over 50MB in their Apps
  • To restrict how third party Apps can use data

Other devices don't have these restrictions.

So there will be no limits on an unlocked sim free phone from apple??

your user name is the bomb.. cant wait for season 4.

nahh it wont work. i mean apple implements it.. but ultimately its for the carriers.. just like tethering was.. facetime etc.

I just wish apple would stick up for the people allow those things free. There isnt a carrier that would refuse if apple said they wont sell them the iphone.

If Apple keep bending backwards for the carriers, they will soon just another RIMM. Remember how innovative iPhone was, compared to BB, which was completely tied down by the carriers.

Telco = Anti-innovation. Anti-competitive. Price-Fixing :D

(sigh) You say it right there. Apple did great with dragging the music industry into the 21st century, but carriers are a little different. Now that the iPhone isn't exclusive to AT&T anymore, carriers can do pretty much whatever they want. Sure, Apple could tel them to go screw themselves and see their phone...where exactly? Also show me another phone that can do FaceTime....

What?

You can do without WiFi but you must then be willing to pay for the more expensive bandwidth if you choose to download large files like movies over cellular service. The carriers have no choice except to throttle users or ask them to pay accordingly. Bandwidth is not infinite.

I know that. But you said the iPhone wasn't meant to be your sole connection even though that is what Apple is trying to do, make the iPhone/iPad your sole connection.

Instead of carriers limiting bandwidth or charging higher fees maybe they should improve their networks and create more bandwidth. But no, the carriers just want to make a money grab and hold back technology.

Carriers are struggling to have the network where it is today. It would cost a lot of money to increase the available bandwidth to the level where everyone could download via LTE anything they want. Could they do it, SURE they could, would you want to pay for it, it bet NOT.

That's why carriers in the US moved to "tiered pricing". It means that you DO pay for the data you use.

Want to use 300GB in a month? You can, but it costs (a lot of) money.

Excuse me? No I don't expect this to be given to me at no charge I was just making the point that the best way for technology to move forward is to increase bandwidth and not just limit it.

And your points about Obama are useless considering I don't live in the US. Don't be so judgmental.

And my point is that you must be willing to pay a lot more if you want to carriers to gear up to all can use unlimited data any time they want!

Most would not be willing to pay for it!
