The Apple Case I had supported MagSafe so if I went into the about screen on the phone I could see the MagSafe version and the like. The case I got for my 15 Pro Max just has magnets in it, so it won’t fall off a MagSafe charger, but it’s not a “MagSafe” magnet meaning it doesn’t exchange info with the phone.

If I put the phone in the case and put it on the charger I can see the MagSafe charger info in the about screen, so the case doesn’t interfere with MagSafe, it just doesn’t support it.

For a charger it makes sense to be MagSafe since that allows communicating charging speeds and the like, but what’s the point of having MagSafe in a case?

When was MagSafe ever about communication?

It's got magnets on the case because if you had a plain plastic case it wouldn't connect to any of the accessories such as popsockets & the like, there isn't enough magnetism to hold it, the phone would just slide off.

If anything it's not communication, it's marketing for accessories.

It’s so the MagSafe accessories are more securely attached. I thought that was fairly obvious, but I guess not.

I wouldn’t want a standard case between my iPhone and my MagSafe wallet.

Read my post again. MagSafe requires both magnets and electronics to talk with the phone. The case I bought has magnets, but no electronics so it isn’t “MagSafe”.

So again, I ask what’s the point of having MagSafe in a case as opposed to just a magnet.

For me the reasoning is that I use a magnetic PopSocket which is MUCH weaker without the MagSafe in the case itself so that it "sticks". Another reason, I have a magsafe charging brick that it probably wouldn't stick to if I was to put it in my sling bag with my phone to charge for awhile while on a train, etc.

So for me it's more of a magnetic "repeater" to ensure that whatever I'm sticking it to (tripod, battery pack, popsocket) will hold.

EDIT: Late to the party - mine I don't care about "MagSafe" as much as I care that the magnet is strong and that it still charges that way.

Forgetting the most basic but also important feature: it will notify you when the device (Wallet) get unplugged (dropped, stolen).

I think you can automate things based on MagSafe as well (eg: if I put a pink case on my phone, set my wallpaper to a pink image to match, put it into a certain focus mode, etc).

Interms of a case, being "MagSafe" signifies that the case includes its own magnets so that it has a strong connection to the MagSafe charger. Without that the case is just a spacer and the phone's connection and automatic alignment will be weaker.
